Title: Jet drive swap
Post by: Baird.eddie on February 25, 2022, 07:37:01 PM
I want to swap the jacuzzi out of my hull , it?s not in the best shape and I want to put more power to it than the old motor that was in it ( believe 455 olds ) I just bought it a year ago and I got a 540 bbc ready to go for it , so does any one know or could point me in the right direction because I?d like to make this boat a set back pump setup preferably a dominator set up , everyone is going to say it?s to much work but I?m willing for the fiber glass challenge so any set back pump guys know where I could pick up one of these pumps up at or anyone selling a  Berkeley or dominator pump ?

Before you do a berk swap, I'd tear into the Jacuzzi WJ and freshen it up. And see what's in there.

The WJ pump was the first pump too break 100 mph, way back in 1970 (or '71). A nearly stock WJ pump could handle 1500 hp (Hurry'Round Hondo)

Looks like you already have a diverter,
Just need a loader, shoe, and ride plate.

Otherwise, the dimensions of a berk are slightly larger than a WJ intake housing, and is a pretty straightforward swap, assuming you can set the intake. If doing the swap, now would be a good time to look into a set back pump, I don't know if that hull would benefit from a set back.
BTW, what hull mfg is it?

Just my $0.02

I talk to a few shops local in SoCal , they said it would be a project but I?ve wanted a set back pump and I have a berk complete just a regular 12 jc , so it probably wouldn?t benefit that much but it?s something I?ve always took an interest in and wanted to try it for myself  , this hull is made by jemcraft it is a 73 southwind

I believe setbacks usually worked well in high powered Southwinds. The JC bowl is interchangeable with a JG bowl. The JG is the one that can add droops and wedges to ?finer tune? how your boat rides for better performance. The JC bowl can be machined to do the same thing.
