What battery do you guys recommend?
I was thinking a blue top optima but not sure which one??

I'm curious also. Would really like as small of a battery as possible... No stereo in the boat either...

I had a blue top optima and imo there over priced and not worth it I buy at Costco 80 bucks for marine battery and 1 year full replacement.

x2 nearly everyone I knows boat runs Kirkland (costco brand) batteries, unless they bought it with something else in. But in that case they are just waiting for it to die.

I have heard nothing but bad on here about optima batteries. However I do have a buddy that has had his for three years now with no troubles. I have another friend that has a yellow top without problems with it either. I work with D/C power and there is a lot of items that alter the life span of batteries. Hot weather will kill the life of a battery quicker than anything for those guys that leave their boat in storage at the river. Extreme cold is just as bad. Overcharging or leaving one dead will lower the life span. They all have a warranty and most of the time life spand will depend on you. I will be installing one in my new boat and I will let you know in a year or so.

My parents and some family friends both purchased new batteries the same month, three years ago. They have used the boats on the same trips, both stored like 5 miles from each other. One had Kirklands and one has optima blue tops, Kirklands cracked over first try with no charge first trip out. Optima, dead and had to be replaced every year. He finally purchased a set of Kirklands this year.

I have several other bad stories about optima batteries in boats. Now in a DD truck/car. They are good, but still nearly double the price of any other battery.

pretty much like 80% of the worlds batteries are made by johnson controls and then branded accordingly. to say one is better quality wise than another is pointless. most of the time if you use it for its intended use, it'll last. i currently have 2 yellow tops in my navigator, and i have marine duralast/autozone's in my boat. When (not if) something were to go wrong with the boat batteries its super easy to roll to an autozone and swap out their brand with a brand new one covered by warranty and I wont be screwed a weekend of boating.

Walmart marine 29 an I have two of them... I can listen to my system all weekend long without any issues. I replace em every 2-3 years just cause.

Yes- exactly. Made in my town, no less. And it's dead true that a Walmart battery is off the exact mfg line as an Interstate. Go with proper size and follow the lowest price. Only advantage I've ever found with AGM is the ability to mount in any orientation. Otherwise nowhere near worth the price, in my opinion.

I have a car quest marine battery and that s*** sucks watching my fuel pump on I lose two volts and after a day of using it its always between 79 and 81% when I get home. my next battery will be jel

Costco all the way...sure if you like colors like black and red black and yellow go for the optima. If you want something that'll last 3x longer for a 1/3 of the price of the optima go with Costco or Wal-Mart.

Even a battery vendor said he wouldn't put an Optima in his own stuff. Just get a battery for its intended use. Starting battery for starting. If you plan on listening to the stereo while on the beach get a second one and be sure it is a deep cycle. No other way around it. Stay away from DUAL PURPOSE. They are not the best of both worlds. They can be used for both but not as efficiently.
