no but really Rod, it aint so bad. At least now you have a base line to go off of, get off your ass and start modifying shit. that's what hot boating is all about, get your motor running right, maybe change impeller's or camshafts to get the rpms up. well you get the idea. hell i towed that hondo all the way to the river and 5 min on the water and it was broke and back on the trailer for the weekend.

You need to run NEW WIRE HARNESS. And just rewire the whole boat. But on the bright ride, the boat run around and you didn't get towed in.    You get alot of friend that will come and help it that boat.  So

A fresh 427 BBC Chevrolet with 11:1 compression showing less than 200 HP on the impellor RPM chart     , nah, there's something wrong there for sure.    I figure I should search from the inside out, do a compression check to make sure nothing's wrong on the inside, check the rocker arms to make sure they're all still adjusted properly/cam's not going flat, go to the carb, make sure a fuel line isn't falling apart on the inside filling the carb with crap (again), go to the distributer and check it for wear on the cap and rotor, check the wires and plugs, etc. etc. etc.

Marc! I know you (and others) wanted a ride yesterday to see how a tunnel jet acts on the water, trust me brother yesterday was not the day for that, with the self-moving Place Diverter, and all of the other problems! I could have drug you around on a sheet of plywood with my family's 75 HP outboard powered boat and you would have had a better ride.

Too late! THREAD JACKER     No one can take away my fond memories of my family boat catching on fire immediately next to all the 1/4 million dollar +++ yaht's in the bay... 

I briefly looked inside the pump just long enough to figure out it's got an aluminum impellor, the egde of the impellor isn't chewed up, it's not filled with rope, and that's about it. I just looked again, and it looks good enough to do 60 at least    , it's got a loader grate (not hanging super low or high), lots of bumps, holes, and dips in the intake area (poor fitting loader, screw heads with no filler, etc...).

It had a 454 with about 9:1 compression, same exact intake, same exact valve sizes, 30 more cfm on the carb, same exact distributer, it now has a 427 with 11:1 compression, etc... the current engine should be about 40 more HP, at least. The previous owner claimed a mph of 72 with his engine and I believe him to be an honest person.

I'm reasonably sure it was riding like crap due to the self-adjusting    hydraulic Place Diverter, but yea, I should check it for a hook as well. OK, I just looked the bottom, I'm guessing it's supposed to be flat for the last ? 10 or so feet, there is a hook in there and I'd say it's less than 1/4" (without breaking out the tools). The ride plate does have an angle to it, very little, again without breaking out the tools... I'm guessing it's about 3 or 4 degree's from the bottom of the hull. 

I'm sticking with engine problems/tuning until I can't research the engine anymore... then I'll move on to the boat part of it.

If the boat had a severe hook in it, my mph would be low, but my RPM's would be higher than 3900 I think.

The question about hook really had nothing to do with engine performance....it was reguarding your comment about how crappy it rode....but i guess you can figure it was maybe the self adjusting place diverter.....please go into more detail about what happened with this......was it slippping like the hydrolics werent holding pressure? or it had a mind of its own like there was an electrical problem.

If the impellor was all chewed up, wouldn't that also make my mph low and my RPM's higher than what they are?

i am no pump expert, but I assume a chewed up impeller would make the engine work harder...less RPMs....but from what you have said, it looks not that bad, so you can dismiss that question.
