Hello guys.. Im new to the forum and new to Jet Boats. I recently bought a 1973 Sleek Craft off Cragislist. BBF 460 with a Jucuzzi 12wj. Has anyone seen it around? I heard from the guy I bought it from said it came from San Diego about 8 months ago.
Sorry for the pictures these are the only ones I have for now. I will post more later today.

Don't recognize it, but Sleek made good hulls.
Be sure to double check for rot in the floors and stringers, and give it a good inspection before you go and try to run 60+. You don't want something failing at speed.

The floor does need to be replaced and i am doing that today. The stringers look good and feel solid. How do I know for sure the stringers are good. Someone told me to look for obvious rot and softness. Is that correct?

Looks like an 18' Rebel to me. so yeah, the only stringers are the 1/4 stringers in the bac if thats the case. If it's the Sportster model, can't really tell for sure from the pics, then it should have full stringers with the stringers cut down by 2/3 in front of the engine going to the front of the boat. Either way, If they show no signs of delamination, the sound and look solid when you pound on 'em from the side, leave them be. The floor is glassed directly to the glass on the bottom of the boat in both cases, so shouldn't be too much trouble, really. :thumbup:

One thing that I did notice that I didn't notice when I bought the boat :banghead: :mad: is that the deck is separating from the hull on the bow of the boat. It extends about 3'. What is the best way to fix this?

Post some pics. If possible from get a couple from under the deck also.

I guess I didn't explain that very well. The Sportster and Rebel are two different models, that really only share the 18' length. Different bottoms, Sporster is more of a true bubble deck and the Rebel is more of a flat deck, for the most part.
The real difference is, the Rebels stringers start at the transom, about 4" high and end completely and abruptly right in front of the engine. Nothing but fiberglass from that point forward. It is a 1/4 stringer boat.
The Sportsters stringers are, for lack of a better description, technically a full stringer boat, but the stringers are full width, the 4" or so high from the transom to just in front of the engine where about 2/3's of the wood is cut away and they continue forward to the bulkhead. Not a full stringer in the purist sense, just there for some extra rigidity given the Sportsters shallow entry and low freeboard.
Not that any of that changes what you got to do or the ingerity of the boat! I don't think for all intents and purpose, one is better than the other. They're just different and handle differently for different purposes. Just trying to get an idea what you have is all. The floors in BOTH are glassed to the insides of the outer strakes in both cases. Don't screw the floor to the stringers if it is indeed a Sportster. That's asking for trouble.
Also, just an FYI, the Rebel came factory with a doghouse engine cover and TT logs/snails, where the Sportster came with open engine and either OT pipes or headers. Thw Sporster was only mae a few years, but starting right about '73 which your boat is.
I hope that was clearer.......maybe......somewhat......

So I just got my seats back from the upholstery shop... Not bad for $300. Well at least that's what I think.. LOL

A place in South El Monte. I bought the material and he did the work for $200. I just added a picture of the old seats. Yes there was an existing template.

those seats look great! hell of a deal you got there...got quoted 200 locally to redo the cushon that Josh took a bite out of on the Tahiti ;) so you definatly scored..looks good..have fun! :beer:

The boat in my opinion is ready for paint but Im not a painter... LOL I finished sanding today and am going to shoot primer some time this week.

So after almost 2 years and 3 kids this project is again moving in the right direction. Been throwing around the idea of having Sam paint my boat but after evaluating my money situation I think at this point I will spend the money on other parts and get back to painting the boat myself. Wish me luck and I will start posting some updated pictures.

I worked for a auto painter when I was younger, and have painted a couple of cars....I learned to be patient..... LOL
The painting was always easy for me....being patient doing the prep was the hard part..... and the most critical part of a paint job I was taught.

No primer yet. Thinking I will be ready for some primer by Sunday. Can't get too much done with only a few hours of daylight for me. Hopefully I could get it finished in a timely manner without having to correct too many of my mistakes. LOL
