You gonna try and save the paint? It actually doesnt look that bad, a little wet sanding and polishing and it may come back real nice. Not to mention save some coin!

Title: Re: My New Project!
Post by: GAWnCA on June 15, 2009, 09:31:21 AM
I think you should put a backer plate of the same thickness as the rails on the out side of the stringer.  It'll save the wooden stringers.  Also some stringer washers or something for the head of the bolts to tighten up to.  Just my 2 cents.

Probably towards the end of the month I will be taking my pump to Harold Bruce at R&D Marine to have him rebuild it and do some detail work to it! Plus I will be taking him the boat to have him flip it over and blueprint the bottom of it!  ;D

He has a picture up on the wall in his front office of his Eliminator Scorpion he used to race and he said it did 116mph in the 1/4.

shoot man, really looking forward to see how this thing turns out....would love to have the talent and coin some of you have.......
you doing 2 seats only or full interior?

btw....what does blueprint the bottom actually mean?
and....test spot?

Title: Re: My New Project!
Post by: MADSKILLZ on July 18, 2009, 11:18:08 PM
For now I am just going to run two front seats.

Blueprinting the bottom is when they fix any hook or rocker that might be in it. in this case they are going to reshape the center keel so the boat rides dryer in the water. This boat has potential to run in the 110's with a decent power plant.

The test spot was just where I hit it with a buffer wheel to so how it would shine up!

would a hook refer to?????? and a rocker refer to a "bump" on the bottom of the boat?
cant figure out what a hook would be.
and what do you meat dryer in the water?

Hook and Rocker.

Put a straight edge on the bottom center of the boat starting at the very back right along the side of the intake.

If the straight edge is touching at the back of the boat and the front of the straight edge but not in the center then you have a hook in the bottom. hooks want to force the bow down making your boat ride real wet. (alot of boat in the water) witch will slow you down.

If the straight edge is flat to the bottom of the boat and not touching in the very back you have a rocker. Rockers alow the front of the boat to come up a little so that the boat can run dryer (less boat in the water) witch will give you more speed.

Why are you adding material to the bottom? I'm not nitpicking, just curious.

Post by: MADSKILLZ on September 09, 2009, 09:31:15 PM
Harold says these boats were designed for outboards so he fills in the bottom and puts a rocker in it so it sets back and carries the nose. He has done lots of these in the past. He says that once he is done setting my boat up and with the 540ci motor im building it will run in the 110's  ;D

Very nice !!  Didn't want to say anything (cuz I don't know shit) but in the other shots I thought that step would be a problem, nice to see its gone.

This is a great thread.  I always loved the look of these hulls, but heard bad things about them with jets.  I'm sure its not a cheap fix, but at least now I know they can be made to work.

It is what they spray on the inside of automobile panels. it covers over stuff really good and is easy to touch up. we use it in our circle race boat as well. it is about 30 bucks a quart though.

So today after work I went and paid a visit to my old Boss who is a good friend of mine and he let me have at it with his Lathe. I started machining my steering wheel adapter for my new steering wheel that I got. My steering hub on the boat is a 9 hole pattern and so is the new steering wheel but the bolt hole circles are different, so I came up with a solution! Here are a couple pics of the Lathe work and the steering wheel. I am going to try and do the mill work tomarrow.

Just curious.. Do you have any pictures of yours or the same hull in the water? The transom looks like it would be a little more lake friendly. I love the layout, most of them are just too low in the water for my local lakes.

what are all the blue an fittings for on the tunnel ram???

The left fitting is fuel inlet, the 4 in the center are for the carbs and the one on the right is a fuel return line to the tank.

When are you planning on your maiden voyage Nick.

Not sure yet Ron. I still need to come up with the money to get my carbs back form the shop and need to plumb everything still. My goal is to have it running and tested @ Twin Palms before Fathers day weekend.

I was wondering the same thing...

I read up on a jet boat engine build several months ago where the guy ran NOS but plumed it all under the tunnel ram where you couldent see it. It was sneaky. Anyone out there have any info on that?

My very first jet boat had a tunnel ram that was plumed for NOS that way. They had drilled 4 holes in the back by the distributor for the lines going into the valley of thr motor. Then they machined a block that was bolted across the valley of the manifold that the lines went into and then had 8 lines coming out of it and into each backside of the intake runners. Pretty trick

You cant tell to good in the pic of the motor but there is a plate I made that bolts to the top of the intake that mounts my fuel log. It is not actually the manifold its self that the blue fittins are going into  ;D
