Thinking of building a 21' open bow Carrera I/O
« on: June 05, 2008, 10:42:44 PM »
Hey all. I have a chance to get a recovered theft 1987 21' Carrera that origionally had an I/O 454 Bravo I.
Its not in great shape but compared to what I've brought home in the past its a cream puff.

My question is this, I have a 1998 260 HP Mercruiser I/O complete in a junk hull that will bolt right in.

1. Will a 260 Merc. work OK in this hull to make 55mph?, I am thinking about a few upgrades while I'm at it, basically to bring the horsepower up to approx. 280-300hp by adding a set of modified Vortec heads and single plane intake, a set of Eddie Marine exhaust manifolds and going thru hull, and camshaft with roller rocker assemblies.

2. Would my efforts be in vane, in other words would it have cool value? Don't want to waste my limited time building something I won't be able to sell later.

Any info would be appreciated because I have to give this dude a deposit by Sunday night because he is going to store it for me for two weeks before I buy it. Pretty cool of him really.

Thank you in advanced, you guys seem to think a little more out of the box than I do.

If you are looking at adding heads and such, I think you could easily do it and enjoy it. Buy it becuase you want it, not becuase you think you can sell it later.

A buddy of mine has a 383 SBC with aluminum heads that runs very good in a 20'er with Jacuzzi YJ pump.

No reason a healthy small block won't run that boat at a fun speed

The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
