Title: New floor install
Post by: Your Mom on March 24, 2013, 07:57:58 PM
While I had the motor/pump out at Bosticks for rebuild I thought about some new floor stuff... Added ski locker, cut out for under seat storage, dividers for locker and new tank and a foot rest/sub box platform...the rest is at 70 degrees. Almost done with glassing and will be gel coating a few areas old ford blue...

All that looks very nice. I like the under seat cut outs for extra storage space..

I dont know your seat configuration, but lets say you sit down in a seat wet or take on a bit of water. Would some water get in those cut outs and sit in there? or is there drainage under your floor?

I am considering ripping up my floors next winter and I would consider making those cutouts.

I sealed off under the seats and if water gets in...just wipe up with a towel. Was going to use wet dry carpet but cant beat blue gel and no mold issues. I do have a drain/plug for the center locker but blocked off the front to keep any gas or whatever from getting in there. My tank will sit about 10-12 inches in front of floor and go to bulkhead. The small section between tank and floor is being made this weekend for a dropped down custom fitted manual diverter. I left a void in front of the seats/floor to allow for a slight bend in the knees. As mentioned earlier, I have a angled foot rest with mount for my new sub boxes... The main reason for all this was weight...I like a clean parked ride as well.

Title: Re: New floor install
Post by: Your Mom on March 28, 2013, 09:26:25 PM
Rolled with 1/2 nap 6"roller. Brushed first coat to get tight areas then added the surface seal with the second. Its leaving an orange peal finish...didn't have to go crazy on the prep sanding as the 1/2 nap blends it well.

I had a bigger one before...this is 42" long x 24" wide. Should balance the weight just fine. I also added a shoe/ride plate.

Title: Re: New floor install
Post by: Your Mom on April 03, 2013, 10:47:05 PM
Tank is roughly 30 gal... The hardest thing about the gel coat was timing the spread/dry time. Once you add the desired amount of hardener to weather its a matter of minutes for install. I did two solid coats. First with hardener then the second shortly after with hardener plus the wax/sealer. The wax will make it dry hard/solid to sand or handle. Once the tank is in a piece of diamond plate will top it...Carpet will just go up to tank. The glass is heavy duty stuff...so thick its sewn and takes time to get the resin through. I used the wax in the resin on the top coat of the floor as well...sands super fast with the wax added without gumming up the paper.

So how do you fill the tank ? You have to bring the hose all the way in the boat ?
And is this a new set up or is this the same you had ? and just better

looks badass by the way !!

It was a bow fill already. My filler cap is in the center top to the tank straight down by the bulkhead. The tank prior was like a 45 gal...way to big and took up valuable space. The old floor was just a cover with no holes/locker. I decided to make the best out of my space for comfort while my motor and pump went for rebuilds...

Just curious
Why not put a remote oil filter set up on there if you already made everything so pretty.
In my opinion, it would make oil changes much Easier and less messy

Never had any issues with oil changes... Even with my exhaust on its still easy to get the filter off without spilling.

Ok, was just a suggestion
Mine has a dual remote filter set up and a extension hose on the plug that I run out the drain plug hole
Oil changes are a piece of cake

I have that same long drain line for oil as well..

Took her out today for its first run since last year..Fast right out of the hole to plane. Big shout to Bostick for engine and pump, Duane HTP for the bolt on shoe and ride plate/ straight snoot( huge help no porpoise set at 3 degrees up), Tom at Jet boat performance for misc parts during build...And of course this site to share my build.
