Hi Im new to the forum. I own a 77 Southwind 18 foot jet. I ts been a project for quit a while and am just finishing it up this month. I am woundering how fast it might go. Its a 800 hp big block efi with a 300 shot of nitrous, putting at around 1100 hp. The power range will be in the high rpm lever since its a solid roller motor. peak power around 6-8 thousand rpm. it goes on the dyno beginning of next week, and ill put it on you tube. the pump is a 12jc with a split bowl conversion, bowl is ported. it also has a shoe and ride plate, loader, inducer, droop snoot, jet a vator, lol spelling. the pump is in the stock location. It also has a bronze b impeller from gs marine. it is a 19 degree hull. Ive been reading a lot of threads here and it sounds like a lot of you guys have a lot of experience with jet boats. Im just lookin for a ball park figure. Thanks Jimmy. Ill post picks when I get the motor back.

Welcome. ;D
I'm assuming this is a Southwind V bottom not one of their tunnel dragster's? What is a 19 degree hull? How did you determine the HP of your engine?
With the parts you've chosen and in the manner that you describe your set up, I think you know the answer already. But just for sh!t's and giggles, if it's all set up correctly my guess is around mid 90's off the bottle with just a hair over triple digits on the bottle.

Yes a v bottom. I had this motor on the dyno last week and it was putting out 680 hp at 7200 rpm off the bottle. It had 990 heads ported and worked for a 700+ cam. I switch them out with a set of rhs/ pro-topline 360 cc heads and ported them and added a shaft mout rocker set up. I also added a vacume pump. The dyno guy, Rick from speed o motive estamated close 800 hp with out the nos. It will be back on the dyno next week. I was just courious, on the speed for safty reasions. I fifured 100+ but how much +. putting it in the water is the way to find out but Im so damm excited I had to ask. I have a lot into this motor. And it has taken a ton of time. It is a tunnel ramm machined to hell. the top was machined off to weld on a rectangle blower plate to mount a 2 inch riser for the nos injectors and bug catcher on top of that for the throdle body. The runners were machined for the 75 lb injectors. the nos is a dry set up. im also running a fjo nitrous controller. A guy some of you may know " Roy miersh" did all the pump work. And a damm good jod he did. I was also wanting to know if the quarter stringers can hold up to that kind of power and if a b impeller is a good choice for that hp and rpm range.

Im not a skin head. Its the name of the boat. lol.
-
There is a chart on here somewere that shows a estimate of how much horse power it takes to spin diffrent impellers to diffrent rpms. I would try and find it if I were you. You might need a diffrrent impeller to spin 7200 rpms.

Found it!!! ;D

Welcome!
"How fast she will go" depends on how many drinks you get her to drink........oh wait, wrong "she"
I dont think anyone can say how fast it will go without getting it wet. A bunch of people have put together there boats with combinations that they expect to go "xxx".
There are so many varibles that go into the final speed of the boat:
how much to you weigh?
How much fuel will you have onboard?
How much does everything weigh together?
Your motor and pump in another southwind hull may run at a completely different speed.
PUT IT IN THE WATER! ;D
-
with the new heads it will rev to 8000 pretty easy but im planning to set the limiter at 8200 to be be safe
-
yup gunna take a lot to spin 7200
oh yeah welcome
-
IMO I still say low to mid nineties off and low triple digits on, assuming everything else is right and matched for the combo. I think a B is too big for the app but seriously I don't know jack.
-
Thank you for the responses and the welcomes. I willl post pics soon. I cant wait to get it in the water again. It will probley be a month before its ready. well its off to the river for me. I hate going without my boat tho. Thanks again Jimmy.

Thumbs up on the boat name. Welcome to the jungle - it gets worse here every day LOL
