well i saw this on craigslist a couple days ago and it looked like somthing the family could use and have fun with, it is definatley a project boat, hull, floor, stringers, transom all appear to be pretty solid, needs carpet, upholstery, motor (bbc), exhaust and alot of cleaning. This will be a family boat that can be bounced around, beached, whatever, something the wife and parents can drive and i don't have to worry about them. it will not be a fast boat, 50 and i will be happy, it does have a jacuzzi yj pump on it so it will not be anything special, this will be a project for my stepfather and me to play with. hoping to have it on the water before the end of summer.

had every plan on starting to take the boat apart today, but decided i needed to clean the garage first, what a f'n mess, only spent about 25 mins on moneypit this evening, wanted to see if the gel would clean up or if i was looking at a repaint (i would have sold it before painting it), all in all i think it is going to clean up better than i thougt, here are a couple pics of todays progress.
-
That should clean up really well.

well the plans on taking forkedup out this weekend hit a brick wall, the wife got layed off thursday night, so i opted not to spend the gas, beer and registration money this weekend, i will wait till she gets another job, so instead i did stuff that does not cost me anything >:D, pulled the interior out of the moneypit, broke it all down, went from two decent sized piles to one small one, kept enough of everything for templates to make the new stuff, the rest is going to the dump. i think we are going to try and do this entire thing ourselves, the wife says she can sew the new interior so i kept the old vinyl for her to use as templates, we will see if she follows through or not. got all the carpet out and the crap that was inside it, found a nice crack in the floor. went to the coin op carwash and hosed it out and vacuumed it pretty good. we i got home started investigating the crack, the wood floor is f'd, it felt solid walking on it, but i found a spot at the back that the wood was almost gone, it was under the interior so i never saw it when i looked at the boat the first time. so i get to go back through some old threads and learn how to replace a floor and build a new interior. all for now, i am going back out to start cutting the floor to see how bad it is under it. couple pics of todays progress

You got lots to do Bro ;D This might get you going ;)

I think I would sell the one you've got and go for this one. Looks like it's in good shape. ;)
-
that is what i was told when we started forkedup for the first and second time ;D
-
That's a pretty nice boat there on eBay.
-
the controls are one the wong side!
-
F it man- go for the gold- save an old barge >:D It's just money
-
It's just money
AND LOTS OF IT!!!! ;D
-
I only posted the boat on ebay so you would get an idea of how its going to look, or close to it..
Yeah it might be cheaper in the long run to buy someone else's boat or (problem) But you really dont get the satisfaction out of it as if you built it... ;)
Just take you'r time with it.. Remember you still have one bad mo fo sitting next to it in the garage to go out and play with ;D

i like the idea of doing it all ourselves, and as far as money, it is going to be a very budget rebuild, i already have alot of ideas to save money and still get the result i want and i will be making alot of things myself (trying)

thanks for the link 2sav, it is a nice looking boat and will give me some insite on what my could look like, not that i am going to go that nice with this boat ;D
-
I wonder what the guy wants? The bid is up to $3800.00 and the reserve isn't met. :-\ ???
-
i was thinking probably around 5k, i no i can get this one done for alot less than that, i am only in to in for $608.00 right now and that includes the carwash money i spent yesterday ;D
-
got the floor out tonight, die grinder, pry bar, drill, jig saw and heineken, out the f'er came, not as hard as i thought, but i still have all the cleanup to do, it was/is nasty under there, just as you guys warned, here are a couple of crappy cell phone pics (the wife hid my memory card for the digital), the real dark one is all the glass that was on top of the wood....
-
Hmmm no foam, lookin good
-
all those light colored strips are foam, but mostly still in one piece, for now
-
Looks like fun ;), You got sooo lucky you have those foam strips instead of the spongey stuff that was in mine ! I bet that "water" smells nice ::) .

well i was just talking to some co-workers about the moneypit and showing them the pics, told them what i needed. motor included and lets just say i no longer need a motor ;D, one of the service advisors at the dealership has 3 sitting at his house, all runners. and i feel he gave me a major hook up on the price, early 70's motor, does run but should have a t-chain put in it, and i will replace the cam and lifters, anther co-worker said he had a hookup on cams, so we will see. this motor with the logs from desertrat, shit is coming together faster than i thought it would, but i am only at the beginning of the project so.....
-
finished getting the floor cut out yesterday, removed to about 1/2 way into the open bow (further than i wanted), but had to find good wood, removed center braces, rear battery mounts, seperator at the front of stringers, washed the hell out of it, just washing it with soap and water made a hell of a difference in the way it looks, no real updated pics of the progress.
-
started taking the motor apart last night to see what was there and what i had to work with, removed the intake and found a broken pushrod laying in the valley, so i started to remove the cylilnder head on that side to look at pistons and see if i could see anything, on the last damn head bolt the socket slipped under full load, well my right hand met with a spark plug which won the battle, plug punctured the top of my hand and the vein on the top right, just missing the tendon (you could see the tendon ;D), it bled like a stuck pig and hurt like hell.
-
the cause of the problem and the solution to the pain ;D
-
WTF is that lump ? Is the spark plug still under the skin ? That hurts just looking at it !! Dont forget to add the cost of the injury (doctor visit etc etc) to the build cost of the boat. ;)

Think of the story he will be able to tell when the swelling goes down and all you see is the spark plug outline! ;D Talk about a chick magnet! ;D
