Title: Not what I wanted to find.
Post by: waternut11 on March 15, 2009, 08:25:01 PM
I have been getting the inside of my boat ready for carpet and paint when I noticed a soft spot in the floor.  So I cut out the sub floor and this is what I found.  :banghead: When I bought the boat I was told the floor was redone about 2 years ago. My only ? is, Is this really worth all the work or should I scrap the hull and buy a different one. Its a 1975 21' tahitti 1/4 stringer.

After cleaning and getting the bad wood out.

shit you're half way there with the old floor and support stringers removed. Do you like the boat? If you do then it's worth it to tackle this, if you're not a huge fan of the boat, scrap it and start over

Sigh... water - ya can't live with it and ya can't live without it.

I'm OK with water just laying around everywhere. But why does she havta WICK everywhere?!!  :screwy:

2009 - 1975 = 34 years. Rot happens. Like LStiff sez, if you love the hull and the price was right then keep goin. Repoman has a post going where he's replacing part of a stringer. Looking 20/20 future it seems like a big undertaking but looking 20/20 hindsight it is only one of a dozen minor detours on the road to restoration.  :banghead:

And if we could change hindsight with forsight, we would all build ships in a bottle as a hobby... ;D

I do like the hull, I guess I will keep going. at least I know what to look for next time I buy a boat. I paid 1600 for it with a 455 olds and berkly jet. when I brought it home the plan was  to build seats and paint. that changed reall quick.

Found out , dont ever make plans on doing something when the word boat is involved... It just dont work out the way you want it too........

Like skip said , your half way there thats the nasty part cleanup, Yuk!!!.... Ive done one or two myself and will probably be doing another here shortly..

$1600 for a running boat is a good deal , now just put it back together and it will even be a better deal ;)

you say you like the boat right ???  Ok then......... just do it ;D
