Title: Old Helm

on my 1979 SST  the steering wheel looks like it has never been off and I need to revove it for servise and need to not ruin it. most other boats I just pop off the cap and the nut is right there this cap will not pop off could it be threaded on? here is a pic if anybody remembers this style your help would be great thanks.

The center cap has to come off somehow
Maybe push and turn or could be threaded
But there has to be a way for ot to pop off

I think you can remove the bolts from between the steering shaft and the cable/rack unit, then remove the nuts on the back side of the steering shaft (helm) assembly and pull the whole thing out of the dash.

I'm getting the idea she is threaded and may be locked on I hate to damage the surface of the center cap so I will take your advise and remove the whole helm and start soaking in blaster. Thanks!
