Sorry for the thread jack, but a torch maybe?  Or just a dremmel/grinder to the head of the bolt then tap it out when the U-joint comes off

Yeas it was an Olds. He's hasnt been on line for a while so I feel its safe to answer for him. Started with a little knock and BOOM. Rod came right through the bottom of the oil pan hard enough to dislodge the starter from the mount and rammed the piston soooo hard into the bottom of the valve train that it put a big groove on the top. He got a 455 from Jim Rich so we are in the process of trying to piece toghether a motor that will run.

I have some ideas. I'll make a call or two tomorrow morning and see if we can get him a BBC. I have one in mind that started as a father and son (til the son went to college) and never put valve covers/intake/carb on. I think it's a 468. Flat top pistons, 9.5:1 compression. Estimated 400HP. May be a little rusty and need some cleaning but Tim seems to be pretty good about that. I have a set of aluminum valve covers to help and a Performer RPM manifold. From there let's see what we can do. Got a 770 street avenger too.

Second call...
If you guys are set on the 455 route. My friend has a set of headers for a 455 along with quite a few other parts. I'll let you guys know hopefully tomorrow.

Yea I agree. This thread went into another direction VERY fast. I know we could use some professional knowledge down here in the OC to see what we can do with this motor.

Does it have a pto or does the driveshaft bolt directly to the flywheel / crank ?

I have a 455 block and matching pistons/rods, & working intake.  Threw a cam in the trash yesterday after I noticed someone knocked the lifters all out of order
Very cheap if it gets used for patches ;)

He's probably got a one piece PTO/driveline otherwise it would be real easy to get to. You're probably not going to be able to get a drill bit in there. Maybe a pair of vice grips with the engine out and the rear engine mount off. The bolt is probably a grade 8. Cutting torch will work but it's going to damage that one piece PTO/driveline if the torch is in the wrong hands.

OK folks, I'm back (after several weeks) ...
Thanks for thinking of me Colby; I'm going to stick with 455O; I'm sure between the 2 I now have I can put together a good motor; I just need more free time; Jason hauled back a 455 from the river I got from JimR, I got it from Jason the next weekend then on a stand the following weekend; I was out of commission last weekend from being very sick.
I'm going to start taking the motor apart and I see no reason I won't have one complete motor out of the two; at that point I should re-ring and re-bearing; will need 8/10qt pan; finally, and here's where I'd like to have some skilled hands over for help, I'll do the oil mods to prevent this from happening again; I researched on the crank and lifter mods and although it reads easy, it would be easier if I have someone helping who fully understands.

To get me to this point, thanks to Bob, Jason, Brian, Brad, Rod, JimR and my nieghbor ...
and, in advance, Colby.  :)

I take it Bob talked to you... If anyone is interested in helping Tim while getting something out of it themselves, check out the Harman Marine Exhaust logs I have for sale: http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?topic=2882.msg40629#msg40629

Whatever I end up with on those exhaust logs will go directly to helping Tim and his family join us on the water. He deserves it guys.

Had a little time this weekend to mess with that other 455; still fighting that stripped bolt on the flywheel but I dropped the pan ... when I get that bolt off and motor on stand as it should be I can go further.
You'll see several pieces of the piston rod, a lifter and push rod

BTW, thanks Colby!

That's from the one I got from Jim. I think I should have enough between the two to build out one good one; the main thing, to get replacements for mine, I need to end up with 8 good pistons/rods; would be nice if this other one has a good crank, otherwise mine will need to be turned/ground/?.
Then I'll need to get new bearings and rings and add the oil mods (could use help on that when I get to that point).

I don't want to sound like a dick, but I think you're stepping on dollars to save dimes with these engines, I did the same thing and I finally bit the bullet, ponied up the dough and saved myself the
hassles of piecing stuff together, have you thought about having Marc or Rod build you an engine?
