This is a 17' Pantera with a late model centerbolt SBC and Panther jet , the customer says the boat ran and handled poorly first time out (30 mph).
Heres the "before" pictures of the Pantera ,this customer came to us from SCJB and were honored to do this , please watch this thread as we work our way thru restoration and repairs on nearly every aspect of this boat and trailer Thanks Tom

Names withheld to protect the ... guilty???

Did it let out big "GROWL" when it was dropped off :D Oh man , I kill me ! :D
All kidding aside , that thing sexy . I do have a few questions though , feel free to answer them during the Q&A part of the resto.
1. Whats the deal on the carb . Outlaw's Cole had one and me and boost were picture texting back and forth on day trying to figure it out . I never did get a response as to what it is excactly .
2. The almight Panther Jet ! Gotta love them and all there quirky-ness . I'm under the impression that all Panthers come with SS impellors and a PVC type wear ring. Axial-flow vs. mixed flow pump . Sorry dont mean to derail the thread , I think just a little bit of info on this perticular combo could shed alot of light as why it was used or effective . Thanks Tom/Rhonda/Josh , I'll be keeping an eye on this from the back seat ;)

The carb is either a Holley 4010 or 4011. Not sure how long they were made and believe if you try to look the numbers up now it supercedes to a conventional Holley. A little research, and it looks like the 4010 was a "square bore" and the 4011 a "spread bore". If so, the carb pictured is a 4011.
-
Any idea on CFM , good or bad , junk beacause of age I assume .
-beerjet-
-
They came in a variety of CFM, 600 through 800, I think. Don't think age would necessarily be more of an issue than with any other carb. I want to say that design came out in about the late 80's. Much simpler than a standard Holley and easier to make a "marine" version out of that design. Unless something is damaged, a clean and refresh would probably make it nearly good as new.
-
I'll get the Dope from my "walking Holley book"(Josh) but its a Holley idea "gone wrong" its definatley gotta go ! Old squirt remember the old Ford 4bbl? looks alot like it huh ? Tom
-
From what I remember Holley "borrowed" the idea from Ford. A couple of selling points I remember was that there were no gaskets sealing fuel below the fuel line and the new shinny finish. :screwy:
-

Exactly what I thought when they came out. Didn't Holley manufacture those old Ford 4bbl carbs for Ford at one time?

I dunno but Josh says you can take the top off and adjust the float while its running (or something) ?? I'll heve to make sure I heard him right ? I do think I had one on my 57 ford 312 cu though !
-
Is it going to lose the panther? What's the plan with her. Or do I just have to wait and see.lol

Years back I was driving from San Jose to Santa Cruz one PM (when I was doing damage inspections full time) ALAS !! I spied a rectangular red box along side the freeway , I pulled over and risk life and limb to throw it in the back of my Colt There it was a SAWZALL (without regard one of the best tools I have in my arsenal ) . A guy once told me.... "give me a Sawzall and a Hammer and I can take down a house" Anyhow the Pantera went under The "skilled Sawzall /scalpel of Doctor Josh today , out with the Panther "pod" ready for the Berkeley intake and "set back" more to follow Tom

Hey Josh and Tom, nice work.... again....I have a little wisdom to offer you, first I commend Josh on the use of the dust mask and the safety glasses, safety is always overlooked, I have a lot of fiberglass particles in my eyes from working with the stuff for 20+ years, do yourselves a huge favor and get fit tested for a respirator, you will not be sorry and it does not cost a lot of dough.
I use a North 7600 series full face respirator anytime I am around polyester or resin dusts, with the repirator you will not get it in your eyes, mouth or nose and for that matter your lungs, we do not know what the long term effects of these new resins are. Here is the one I have been using for about 7 years, you'll love it...They do not cost much and are easy to maintain, Josh you've got a lot of boats to restore, you need to live for a long time...

Thanks Bro Got them coming ! Tom

Thanks John I guess we could edit from the surveilance video but it could have me and Josh bitchin at each other and pretty some raw language like OC choppers not to mention us singing and humming 70's rock ,the "blow by blow" of this and several other projects will be on the new web site (www.jetboatperformance.biz ) when and as we have time to "load" ,I really need a part time techy to help with all the data and photos , typically this is when we have (or expected) to work on the web sites but weve been blessed by being busy despite the sleepy economy Tommy

Boat looks great! :o If I bring one of mine out for you to work on, instead of trailer bling can I request the child installation be a little more vintage ? I could probably get the boss to ok the trip as a business trip if I could guarentee him an enlistment out of it. The work you guys do is truely amazing. You need to open a branch office here in the midwest. I realize the commute might be rough, but have the elves that help you do all that work over night build you one of those magic sleds or something of they sort.
