Cuz I don't have enough $hit to do, I decided to scoop up this seemingly good deal:

As soon as I got it home, I hit the deck with a buffer to see if it was worth saving....damn, the color came back and looks friggen good. After screwing with it for a bit trying to get it to run, I realized the ring gear is shot and the starter gear is worse.....and the carb is junk. So I (of course) tore it all apart. The wiring was a mess and the bilge was full of milkshake....upon removing the engine, I noticed that the drivers side front engine mount was loose on the stringer.....I removed it and found that the lower hole was rotted and the top hole had crushed the stringer.....I thought I'd be able to cut out the bottom half of the stringer for 8 or 10 inches, epoxy in a new piece, glass it up, and call it good, so I moved on. The seats were all dorked up so I threw them away and began building new frames. Got those all done and ready to bring down for upholstery, but decided to do a bit of work on the stringer with the rest of my Sunday.....the stringer is now gone. It was complete rotted from the motor mount back to the transom....water dripped out when I started cutting near the transom. Great...some deal.
I was gonna scrap the project, but now I'm thinking hey, it doesn't seem so bad. I cut an "inspection window" in the glass in the other stringer and while much better, it's still turning black on the bottom half and begining to rot, so I'll do 'em both. I can get all the material for both stringers for about $300...shouldn't take but a couple days once I have the prep done.
Stay tuned...this should get good.
At least I've got a seadoo that runs that I can ride next summer while I've got 2 boats that aren't running...LOL

Ya Pat I was so close to buying that boat. Glad I didn't seeing as I have NO experience with replacing the stringers. Good luck with your project and keep us posted with your progress :beer:

thats for sure. if things go good i plan on adding stringers n my float, and new seat molds too. never done it before so it should be fun. keep posting.

I used 15/32" plywood from HomeDepot Speed and Marine. I made the bend in the ply wood by making slices 1/2" apart, through 3 out of the 4 plys...then sponging the back of it to make the wood damp, then bend and screw into place. I used some little pieces of scrap wood as nailers to hold everything together. I glassed up one side, then pulled out most of my nailers, then cut some 3/4" plywood (that I had laying around) to make the nailers for the upholstry and the cushion bases. I used up some of my cheapo "bondo" brand resin thinned with acetone to coat everything for sealing purposes....2 coats. I'll get these in for upholstry maybe at the end of the week....

Wow. you don't mess around. Nice work on the seats. Wish I had woodworking skills. I hate wood.

They're easy...if anyone wants a set, I'll gladly build some for ya to help pay for this project....which is slowly, but surely, getting out of hand.....as usual.
