Post by: 79baja460! on October 30, 2015, 05:52:18 PM
Only catch is he wants the motor back, 455 olds. With a jacuzzi pump. I have a 460 i wanna put in it. He doesnt want the pump, but i also have a berekley pump as well. Ok, how to swap in the 460...and go!

I would be so afraid of losing that boat during an unexpected panic stop that I would have gone straight to a welder before even bring it home.   IMHO that setup is sketch - EEE !

19' SJ Miller flat deck, Nice
Mines a '74 SJ (Ski-Jet) Ex-455 boat, has a WJ (shot), and was the same green, too
WJ's are a fine performer when set up right

Welcome to the Miller family

Thanks mash! So what is all involved with swapping out the 455 with a 460?

8 bolts, 2 or 3 wires, 2 hose clamps, and a throttle cable...20 mins work... ;)

Does the 460 have 4 point mounts? 3 point you are gonna need 4 pt...
460 have logs and snails? (like the 455?)
Drive line splines are the same from Berk to Jacuzzi
Have done 455 to 454 and logs lined up pretty good...460 to 454 lined up good too...
simple plumbing- water and fuel.
swap sending units for water temp. and oil press. from 455.
starter wiring will swap sides 455 drivers', 460 pass. side
Dowel and glass/seal 455 holes in stringers before the 460 transplant

Has the snails, it is a four point. So pretty much just bolt in the mounts, then the motor, hook it up and done?

The 4 point mounts (feet) for the 460 wont be the same as the 455.
get 460 driveline at the correct angle, drill new holes...

LOL       How many times have I said that just before I spend the entire day working on "details"?

And I think you are going to run into 4 hose clamps.   More if you like them on fuel lines.

If you are a mechanic, then this job should be a piece of cake.  But be advised that (a) you will need to figure in new mounting points for a non-Olds motor, and more importantly (b) those new mounts have to be placed in such a way that the driveshaft geometry is correct with only a 2-4 degrees acceptable range to work with.   Going online (or just asking GT here nicely) will get you diagrams for the proper routing of water for the engine cooling, and nowadays you can buy entire wiring harnesses for boats front to back.
I think you can do this job pretty easily, but it always takes me longer than I plan for.  I guess that is just me LOL

GT never uses an anchor

The boat stays put even though he never uses an  anchor.  It stays just because he wishes it to.

GT never wipes down his boat after a day on the water.

Water spots just run away and hide it seems.

If he still has and will sell separate, this 4-point looks really nice.
