Man thats alot of carb
Yeah, normally its the good ole MPG theory ;) But in this case thats out the window here. Might as well just run fuel line down the intake and let her rip ;D
Dont mind me, im just jealouse >:D Another project that will kick ass :o

-
gee I wonder why??? lol
-
Those are some thick F'in rods!
-
Curious how many of us run them allynuminum (misspelled on purpose) rod things. I'm a steel kind of guy but given the maintenance and care that we give these motors, I bet those rods would last a surprisingly long time.
-
Personally I'm big on I's andf H's Crazy though if you look hard at the upper rod and lower cap "halves" they freeze them and break them vs cut and machine no two are exactly alike Tom
-
Aluminum rods are good stuff. They usually require some clearancing handle great power and actaully absorb some shock and vibration.
The bad
If you use them for drag racing you can get about 70 runs out of them before they need replacing. Brooks, Child&Albert,Oliver, Howard etc. all make em and alot of em are used in Top Fuel, alky etc.
-
Thanks Blue ,these have 4 passes at Bakes ,should be good for a while Tom
-
Got some real progress today "makin the cut ...more to follow ! T

-
all i can say is WOW, damn nice work
-
looks great tom, i see the prob with the starter :-\
just a thought if you boxed the stringers in like rick did the starter would not be an issue, maybe too late now, unless you want to re do it.
we ran into the same issue with brads boat and did the same thing as you. got any pics of the rear of the motor/stringers?
-
Ralph ,The tunnel is just too narrow ,we ran into this on my TX 16 and similar problems on the Daytonas (not so much) The body of the standard and even the Tilton starters actually interferes with the motor alignment . On the last Daytona (Kregs) we used a new rail kit flywheel cover that facilitates a Top mount starter . On this project I'm trying to "budget" so I combined a Three point rear mount (has a boss for top mount starter) After I get all the set up done I'll ask Josh to go back and fab 'legs" for the rear B'hsg to stiffen it to the motor rails Even with a mini top mount we only have a small amount of clearance between the inside of the transom and the back of the starter body (hope this makes sense ;D Tom I'll take some more pics later today
Go Chargers !!!

Bitchin work and thread. I saw a tunnel on San Diego's Craigslist with an outboard on it, this thread makes me think about things I wouldn't normally think about, like converting a outboard hull to jet drive. Keep it up and thanks again.
-
yes i see now, its the tunnel and not the stringer thats in the way. this is the shit i like to see (fabrication) thinking outside the box.
good work tom mmmmm, josh
-
Thanks Guys , cant say it doesnt help to have the tools to do this too , HRc's see what brand /build tunnel that is ,might be condusive to a swap Ralph thanks ,did you get the plates made of do you need a pattern ? Tom
btw after pre oil I spun this motor (used) over last nite for a quick compression and cranking O' press test has 150 c/compresion on 7 cyls one hole with 30psi and mad exaust leakdown (same cyl)could be a rusty valve? more to follow

...150 c/compresion on 7 cyls one hole with 30psi and mad exaust leakdown (same cyl)could be a rusty valve? more to follow
:o :o :o
That's a bummer! I hope it's something simple Tom.

Thanks Bro (btw Happy Birthday ;D Heatseeker!) We "aired" that cylinder today pulled the exaust valve spring and I "buzzed the valve stem a few times with my Makita (don't laugh) it came up to 120 psi still some very slight "hiss" from the ex side we'll see tommorow If its fixed Finished up the motor mounts today Socal hang on to your A$$ theres a hell of a storm headed your way Krazy !
Re the motor now we'll pull it again clean paint and shine ,then ready to plumb and wire wait tilll you see the crazy headers (if they come) Tom

Very nice work,I can't wait to see It finished.

Thanks Boost even after all these years and motors and boats and hotrods its still a huge "lump in the throat" exciting turn on to "hear it run" Since I Know very little about this motor other than the basic specs I'm sure its a "bad ass" anytime you have 13.5 comp 600 lift cam etc its just gotta "crackle" Tom

Love the starter mount, but isn't u-joints a biatch to grease/change ?
Have not seen one like that before, very clean looking ;) 8)

-
Rob actually its pretty simple to get a "stinger" in to lube ,because of the "BB Ford in the tunnel action" we had to top mt the starter so we used a Three pt my Bell hsg but made it "solid with the "legs" (thus the 5pt delio) Trying to do this with the least ca$h outlay Tom
-
We scounged enough stainless lines and fittings along with what we were given to plumb this baby yesterday & a little electrical ,gettin down to it Tom

I don't know if anyone told you or not , but your valve covers don't have breathers in them! ;D ::)
-
Marc, take a look at the tunnel ram, specifically in the open area between the front four runners and the back four. Appears to be a cleverly located breather in there.
-
And here i am trying to be funny , Turns out I am just stupid! ;D
-
Marcs...Good eye ;) (damn you cats are a tough audience) ;) Old Squirt VERY good observation on the T/R (id like to take credit but thats from the prior builder/ guy) Here the pics of today I post up a lot of "mock ups" to stand back and kind of get a look at things at the end of the day ;D But were gettin there heres today Thanks guys !! Got a lot more but I'll tease ya'll with this from Sat (when Rhonda chased me out of the shop) check it out we were able to convert the OB double cable steering to "Jet" duallies ...Tom
