More info needed...

Which prestolite dizzy do you have? There should be an IBM number on the metal tag attached to the outside of the body.
Also, do you have a clip on cap or screw down cap?

After you figure out your exact specs, look into a Pertronix ignitor and coil.
Best bang for buck upgrade you can do for your ignition system.

Well actually it has screws that hold down clips , does that make it a clip down ?

You will need a pertronix part # 1581.

Your distributor would be a clip down cap.

When you go to convert your existing distributor, pay close attention to the springs on the advance weights... Iv seen many springs just laying at the bottom deteriorated. The spring kit for that dist are not available anymore. If you end up needing replacements, mallory will be your best bet.

Best price for the pertronix 1581 ignitor ebay item # 390663534339

Good luck

If you have the room, I know a couple people running one with no problems. All have done a vacuum delete though.

Guys - one last question - do I eliminate the little resistor block or keep it in line ? Do I  need a new coil or Can I run the one I have ? Thanks again for the advice

Ballast resistor will depend on which coil you will use. To get correct advise on weather or not you can use what you have, first we need to know what you have, right?

I used a Crane XR-I module on my 455 Olds. It has worked well for me. It is basically the Pertronix 3 for a lot less money, about $70.00. No problems in the last 50 or 60 hours. This module required the use of the ballast resistor.
