Wow that's quite a project you've got going. What is the long range plan for this old girl?  I had never heard of Wreidt boats before I bought mine and I have only seen one other on the water. I am guessing they must be well built or you wouldn't have kept it this long or tried to restore it. Are you going to repaint w/ metalflake?  What comes next? Details man we need details.  Good luck with it.

We are repainting it its orginal metalflake colors. The reason for the complete restore is because its been in the family for 35+ years. It has too many good memories to throw it out for a new boat.

The sanding still continues and I have some poxy putty on order to fill in the dings, chips, scratches, etc. I have a few places suggested to contact for metalflake. I will be calling them soon.

Hey gizzmo,
I saw a little picture of you rregatta here on the board, but it was kinda small, can you post some more shots of it. I have a great Regatta story for you. This week or next I'm getting this boat (or should be) On a hunch last year I swung by the company that use to make Regattas. They quit making boats in the 80s and switched to making fiberglass parts of motorhomes and the like. I wanted to know if they had any molds for their boats still around. I was told I missed the last one by 2 years, they would just cut them up and toss them as they needed more room for newer molds. This guy tells me that he might have something I would like though. He took me to the building out at the edge of the lot and inside was the last Regatta left in the shop. It wasn't the last Regatta built, but for whatever reason, it never got rigged or sold. Been sitting here, out of the weather for over 30 years. The clear on the flake is gone, and the white gel is a little beat up but it should color sand and buff OK. I'm going to cap and reshoot the target. It's layed up for an I/O so I'm going to hang an outboard off the back of it. From the time I first looked at it to last week, they've thrown away the last of the boat parts including some original emblems. That stuff was supposed to be set aside for me too, but somehow wasn't.
Here's a few shots of the boat as I found it.  :)

Brad, I saw someone on craigslist using the picture of your jet boat as an example for what the boat he's selling could look like when finished. He's selling a Wriedt with a chrysler outboard. I actually looked at the boat a few months ago but passed, a real dog.

Thats funny....send me a link to his ad if you see it again or if its still active....

I saw another identical wriedt stinger for sale in garden grove on craigslist once....everything was a spitting image of this wriedt, but it was an outboard. I emailed the guy cuz i just wanted to swing by to check it out, but I never heard back from him....i woulda been wasting his time anyways. maybe the same boat ??? I did send him a link to the thread.

Rich, I am glad you were finaly able to find a boat you liked and wanted, I know it has taken some time. If you don't have an engine to clamp on it Ron Hill over on Boat Racing Facts may have one at a great price. It seems he comes accross great deals or gifts alot.

Brad,
Been searching for that post but can't find it. This link is to the same boat for sale, but it's an older link. The one I saw last week had your boat posted in the ad too. It was kinda funny. It had this picture in it...He was wanting to trade for some gel work.

Jim, haven't been without a boat all that long. Sold our Spectra in Oct. Would much rather have an old Tahiti, one that my dad rigged, but haven't found anything that blows my skirt up. Some are ok, it's more of a matter of what people do to the boat over the course of 40 years that makes me pass on them. This Regatta is OK. Not my first choice, BUT, it's not full of holes, botom should be very straight, it's been sitting in what's left of the hull mold for god knows how long. That's the only thing I asked them to do, lift the boat up so I can see the bottom. Should be a cool little boat. Looking at a 150 merc tomorrow on a ugly boat. I should be able to use the engine, steering, shifter, trailer and hopefully the fuel tank. Got a jack plate, need some four degree wedges and not much else. lol

Looks great to me. I remember when I first saw that shot of your boat. Everything about it screams 'river' to me. The trailers in the back ground, the gravel, palm trees, blue sky and the boat. Reminds me so much of when I was a kid it's not funny. Love that shot.  ;)

Brad,
I have the same boat. I've replaced the transom, floor, repainted, MPD jet work and a 383. Gps speedo @ 62.5 with logs. I'll see if I can post some pics.

Thats the reason why we are restoring it.....most of my earliest memories of the river are being in this boat....here is a picture of me in the boat in '84 at 6 years old.....

Thanks Brad!.

So, what do you think of her? I'm still looking for the restro pics.

I had the transom replaced, $450.00 at Lavey Craft ( side job), New 383, all new wiring, New gauges, how do you like the GPS sender on the bow light? new 40oz carpet, new floor and stringers, Brekley jet work by MPD, painted again with Linier Polyurethane. I need to find a longer ski tow or have the ski tow extended ( any Ideas)? I'm also looking for a MSD Dist. I' not getting the curve 35 or 36 degrees at 3500 rpm out of the prestolite/ mallory unilite dist. Waxer and I were in blythe in Feb. 4adults, a dog and the bimini up and I had 61mph on the GPS speedo.

With todays hot weather, it was a great motivator to get back on this project tonight.

we sanded down all the poxy putty that we applied on the boat a couple of weeks ago and reapplied it in a few areas where it didnt fill right.

I also continued to try to get the pump intake out.....I was a jackass and decided to hammer on the tounge part of it that is the very trailing edge where the suction housing bolts on....and it broke....so now im trying to get the rest of it out. I just might start cutting it up with the angle grinder to get it out.

So if anyone has a berk intake for sale, let me know. I know I have one in the raspberry, but I dont have the patience to get that one out right now either. Id just rather buy another one.
