Title: re Pioneers and Mach1
Post by: jet boat performance on January 26, 2008, 09:45:14 AM
RE Rods project

It's a 1978 Pioneer 19' Mach 1 Tunnel Hull, former drag boat. Here's some pics

I cooresponded with Rod this week and thought I'd impart this Info " Rhonda and I bought our first Jet in 78' week quickly became friends with the local Hot boat crowd which included Steve Hall of Pioneer boats . Pioneer was located about 100 yards from where JBP is now in Atascadero if fact the paint, striping ,lettering and interior work were done by a guy who once occupied one of my upper shops . Steve built nice looking high quality 18's, 18 Sprint set backs ,19's and 20' jets (Very similar to the Southwinds and Eliminators of those days, a few IOs and in the "gas crunch years" some 12 footers with Tihatso (sp)O/B's. Pioneer built a few "Rag hull" jets in the late 70's that ran very well ,one belonged to my B/F Greg Stark  called "Squirtin for certin" and was CJ record holder for a time .Pioneer went out of business in the mid eighties for reasons I wont devulge. The Pioneer molds and name were sold to a guy in nor cal who continued to build boats for a few more years. To the best of my Knowledge he never built a tunnel as Pioneer (Hall did work for a couple other socal builders however)

Re Mach 1 ,Rod I have little info as yet William may Know more ,this id what i've been able to find so far  Best regards Tom

I grew up on a Pioneer boat named the BlueNun hence my screenname since I am always looking for that boat. They are great built boats and handle very well. I heard they wen't out of business for splashing another brands hull and making it a little to well and costing someone some $$$$?????

Blue all that and due in part to some of the expensive popular "social habits" of the times too .Boy did we have some parties ! Rhonda and I are digging thru (of all things floppies trying to find so pics) I don't recall blue none, but all Steves homies call their boats  "Country cookin" ,country this and that etc Blue nun used to be one of Ro's weapons of choice till I made a beer drinker out of her  We'll post some pics if we can find them

Very cool Tom, thanks. So what happens when we know for sure that Pioneer never made a Mach 1 tunnel hull?   :o  Anything you can come across as far as info would be awesome. Thanks again, Rod.

I was talking to someone on the phone and they were asking me about my boats title. So I went and looked at the title and somehow the word Pioneer got dropped when I registered it under my name (when I bought it). The paperwork that came with it wasn't a title, it was something like "filing for a duplicate title and transfer of ownership" or something like that. That paperwork said the builder was Pioneer Mach 1, however I just looked at my title and it lists the builder as Mach 1. ? ??? ? Maybe the guy didn't know what the lost title stated as the builder and when the DMV registered it under my name it went with what was originally on the title that was lost?

I changed my sig accordingly.   ;D

Got it. According the HIN, first 3 letters are CFZ, CFZ stands for California Homemade Boats, maybe someone splashed a Mach 1? Lost the original HIN? It's stolen?

This site gives years and models made by Mach 1. They only produced jets in 1978 according to this web site. Helps to explain why very very few are out there.

It just kept ringing so it's not out of service. But there's no telling if it's the same person that has the number. I'm going to call it on Monday again. I'm not sure what/how else the number can be checked but if you've got a plan - run with it.  ;D

No answer on that phone number (916-445-9657), just rings and rings and rings... I did a google search on the phone number and the number actually does have something to do with boats still. The number is for the "San Francisco Estuary Project, The Scoop On Poop"  :-\   http://sfep.abag.ca.gov/programs/boated/poop.html

... Rod if you want document everything then send it /take it to CA Dmv they may allow you to  do an "affidavit" to get your title changed to read correctly  Tom

At this point, I don't know what correct is!  :D

Any pictures Jim? Please  ;D

Does anyone have pics of a Mach 1 tunnel other than my boat or BAE 557's boat? They had to have made more than 3 boats, right?

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up for my foggy brain. I was trying to reach Mach 1 or California Homemade Boats with that phone number. I later figured out, through google, who the phone number now goes to. I thought maybe you had a different phone number for California Homemade Boats.
