Ian,

From what I am told, there is only one U.S. race scheduled so far, which is the Hoopa Race on the Trinity River in Northern California. The Worlds is being hosted by Mexico this year, it's going to be a strange year for sure...The Hoopa race is sort of different in that it is held smack in the middle of an Indian reservation...Also hotel accommodations suck...

There is a state campground not too far from the action though.....Look up Willow Creek California for more info...

For schedule info and a pretty laid back and quiet forum, check out   www.jetboatracing.com   Jesse will keep the schedule pretty up to date because he is the head of the racing committee in the states.

They normally schedule the Boatnik a little late and as far as I know, no other Rogue race is in the works...

Hope they get more races scheduled, I am going to try to make it to at least one, I need my fix  :sly:

Good news, Bad news, Good news, Bad news

Well, the Good news is Ian has decided to not be a loser like his pops and go get some education and make something of himself so he'll be headed off to college.... Congrats son! I'm f'n proud of you.

Bad news is that he has to sell his boat cuz he can't support it while going to college.

Good news is that we're gonna keep it in the family as Jan and I have bought it from him

Bad news is I just paid a ton of money to buy a hull with my engine and a bunch of my parts in it.......... :screwy:   ;)

And good news is that I have a new project....... ;D ;D ;D ;D

The punk probably will buy it back after I dump a bunch of money and more parts in it.  Then of course he's want it for less that I just bought it from him for cuz it's 4 years older.........   ;)

Hah! Yah, she's pretty damn lucky isnt she?  Actually Tommy, the first time I saw this boat in person down at your shop when Ian was buying it I fell in love with it.  It's different, beautiful lines, bitchin hardware and has what I would classify as some really cool patina.  Guys in the streetrod set are bustin their ass to get this look and this boat has it in spades.

I just gotta make sure I don't mess it up.  Just gotta keep trying to see if that money tree will leaf out.  My boat pert-n-near killed that poor tree..

It is indeed a interesting obsession we all seem to have with these boats, the collection of them and the work and restoration .When Glen first told me abot that boat I knew I had to own it ! Just like many of the hundreds of boats that have passed the JBP "halls" over the years we're  better off for the expirience of rerigging and getting to drive the UFO . Like the Schiada and several others I wish I could have a Jay Leno type Stable and could afford to have kept them all . But they move out in anticipation of the next I've kind of got my eye on one of Rons Cheyenes now  ;)

Will do Glenn.   I can't wait.  Havent managed to connect but when he responded to my message with "if this is UFO II, call me" I had goosebumps.   He didnt even hesitate.

Could you help me and tell me about what year it was when you first saw this boat and what town/city that was?

Take care

I first tried to buy this boat un-rigged in 1996 and it was literally a barn find, it was shiny new looking and all the yellow anodized parts were in the cardboard boxes the anodizing guys packaged them in.

The guys that had it were in San Jose CA and I can't remember how they ended up with it but he was asking $7500 for it without a motor or exhaust... :screwy:.

By the time I got a hold of it it had been outside in the weather for almost ten years.

I really wanted to keep it, but it was not worth the divorce it would have caused....LOL  ;D

Thanks so much Glenn.  I wonder if these guys are the same ones you dealt with.  Here's what he messaged me a bit ago.

"Hi John
Just a short beginning to what I hope will be a long friendship between myself and my central California friends and car guys, and you and your friends in Washington State.

U F O II was purchased by my friend Rich Laguilo at a time when [Sanger Boats, Fresno California] had stopped selling bare hulls to the general public. U F O II was originally billed to a boat boat racer in Oaklahoma, and was picked up and payed for by Rich at Sanger Boats. U F O II came home to San Francisco California where Rich and I both lived. Lots more to come"

WOW!!!!

I just got off the phone with the original builders/owners of this boat and this boat has so much history I can't believe it.  All of it is fully documented and he's assembling a portfolio for Ian.

When I hung up with him I was so nervous I was shaking and Jan laughed at me cuz I opened two beers at the same time.   This is a REALLY special boat.

More to come..........john
