This is an SoCalJetBoats.com Exclusive Build of Sam Carlos's 19' Cheyenne by Ralls Performance Marine in Santee, CA. Sam will be posting pictures and updates on this entire build. The hull is being finished up and it will be on display this weekend (Feb 21-23, 2014) in Parker, AZ at the Arizona Drag Boat Association races in front of the Bluewater Resort and Casino.
E-Ticket Boats, who laid up the hull in Lake Havasu, AZ, was kind enough to let me come down and shoot this boat before they put it on display this weekend. Pardon the dust as they were still finishing it up when I arrived.

What Sam has planned for this boat:

- Pump by Jack @ MPD
- Bottom blueprinted by Bennett

Dumb question never really seen how a hulls put togethor, how is the top cap attached the the actual hull? And how is the seam cleaned up?
First off no question is dumb because were all learning each and every day...
They use different supporst/bulk heads and then glass them together. They glass the top to the bottom from the inside all the way around with fiberglass. The outter seam around the entire boat is left for me to either put a rub rail on or cap it.. What do you guys think im gonna do? OF COURSE im capping it!! O0 So it will be all smooth the whole way around. Ill post up pics when that time is here, it will be my first official cap job im doing :o .. What better way to learn then on a brand new boat hahahaha >:D

Its gonna be one bad mamma jamma sam! Cant wait to see/hear it in person!

Just left MPD with all my goodies !! I'm going with Jacks 5 degree low pro intake with shoe pad at 0 degrees, also went with one of his loaders. American turbine stainless double A impeller fully race prepped and detailed. HCM stainless inducer also fully detailed. He perfected my bowl detailing while he was at it. He also serviced my jetaway and assembled my pump. Now its time to make her purdy!!

So I finalized the color for block and pump. Was gonna just do black but Alison pretty much laughed at me and talked me into something a lil fancier. So I went with a BMW color called black eyed purple. It still has that dark look but when the sun hits it alllllll the pearls in it will come alive. Here is what it looks like when I first mix all the toners together. This color had about 10 different toners in it.

Thanks, and this block came out of a cigarette boat and those holes were used to cool down different parts of the motor so instead of removing them and putting freeze plugs my engine guy Jimmy really liked them and said he wants to use them, im assuming to cool down the intercooler possibly and maybe the oil cooler.

I hope you took detailed notes on what he's doing to the intake entrance, I'd be very interested, looks like my bottom. How much tweaking does it need being it's a new hull? That's got to be a thrill, and a little nerve racking, rigging a brand new hull. Lot of sharp tools going in and out of that thing.

Hey Greg hows it going? Ya ive been taking notes and watchin every move he does on it.. Jeff is a awesome guy and really cool to shoot the shit with. Hes obviously very smart so its fun to pick his brain with different ideas. According to Jeff there is no such thing as a "out of the box" bottom ready to do 130 + so although its not a lot of major work hes doing its more fine detail. He gave me the option since I know bodywork to finish the bottom when he has the overall shape 80% done. So soon as he gives me the green light ill be able to do final detail work, then prime and paint the bottom. Jeffs spent 3 days so far on the bottom and will be finished with his part tomorrow. =)
I picked up intake manifold from powder coater today, so Ill scuff that up tomorrow and shoot it to match the block . Im hoping to have engine back and assembled by the end of April , after they dyno it of course
Soon as im fished with the bottom ill flip it back over and start on the cap job around the whole boat. That shold be fun :o ... Not gonna lie, ive never " capped " a boat before, no better way to learn then on ur own brand new boat right ? :screwy:

130!!! You go BOY! I'm still trying to drag mine past the century mark, I was just getting past 90mph last summer. Who ever set my boat up before had no clue, and I don't know much more, lol. My shoe was almost 1/2" above keel, and I couldn't keep the pump loaded above 3800- 4000 rpm. I got a new shoe and some direction from Chris @ B1 and was out at Elsinore testing when I broke the motor so I didn't get any real data, but it felt like it popped up on top a lot more. We'll see what she does now with her new dancing shoe on and a new set of AFR's on the motor!! Looking forward to hooking up in Blythe now that we're neighbors. Keep up the awesome work and of course the pics.

Alright so I dragged sleeping beauty out and flipped her right side up. After talking with Todd/TRG he talked me outta putting a rub rail on it and gave me the confidence I needed to commit and go forward with capping it. Yes gonna make it round at some spots and some spots are going to be a lil more sharper.. Just gonna follow the body lines and go from there. BUT Now its got me thinking again..... Should I just blend in the pearl orange and have it solid orange or should I just go at it and throw some graphics on it ?

Keep up the great work guys, lookin forward to the progress.

Im in no rush like ive said before haha. Theres been more then just painted fenders though. Ive also been to the river 6 weekends in a row and have the next 3 planned. With running the body shop and what not I don't get much time to play on the fast boat. I was going to have lunch today with my engine builder but I got caught up with a insurance adjuster and couldn't meet him.. He has some suprises for me he said >:D .. As far as the boat goes all I need to do is come up with some sorta paint scheme to cover the cap job. Once I have it painted and motor is dyno'd it goes straight to Andy for rigging.. Soon as I have any updates ill make sure to update the thread ! :sly:
I also want some things to be suprises for all yall. Cant show you all them goodies

At what speed do you need to get the bottom re-worked?

At what speed ? Huh ? But yes I had Jeff Bennett do the bottom on mine, and Zack Rauscher installed the intake that I bought from Jack at mpd with all the bells and whistles done to it.

Yeah, when I spoke with Mike D years ago he said that their tunnel was only good to about 105 MPH. Any faster and it would need bottom work.

Here's the info they gave me 105 to 110 MPH.

Haha that's man.. Good to be back. The Dark grey is a non sanding sealer.. One good coat and helps protect it, fills in minor imperfections and gives the gurgandy a dark base since that color is very translucent.
