Title: SCJB Project: 1980 19' Dana
Post by: Brad @ SCJB on February 18, 2013, 04:49:42 PM
So I picked up this project a few months ago from Sam. I havent really said much about it because I haven't had much time to work on it. Its complete minus pump and motor. I plan on capping it and giving it a fresh paint job. The bottom has been blueprinted by MPD and jack also did the intake/shoe/plate setup. The boat is solid all around, it just needs some cosmetic love. Things i need are a pump (i have a lead on one in Monterey), seats (gunna go with fiberglass buckets and a bench).....and lots of elbow grease.

they sit a bit too high in the boat. yeah, i can cut them down, but i would have to reupholster them anyways to match the new color(s) i will pain it....i just like the look of buckets/bench better

Gunna put this one back on the map....

Just gunna get her back on the water to finish off the season. I have a few motor options I am looking into.

Probably pull the pump out of the race boat to get by for now since that will be idle for awhile.

The Goal is to have it done by the Gord Trip (Aug 16th)

Didn't you buy another boat, Heat wave or something like that. The yellow and orange one with the big black scoop?

That wasnt mine. The GF bought it...shes out of the picture now.

Back to the topic.....I need a set of wheels for this trailer as its sitting on blocks right now. I have a few leads on Craigslist, but figured I'd ask here as well.

So I picked up a Pump....so that's taken care of.

I pulled off the cover yesterday and assessed the situation....

All the cables still move freely. The Stringers are 24" wide and I have a 25.5" wide rail kit I had in the liberty before I custom made the one I have now. I can trim that down to work. The trailer is on blocks (long story). I might just swap the wheels off the liberty since its not goin anywhere anytime soon.

The motor thats going in this needs new bearings, gaskets, etc. I also need an oil pump. I will probably just run a front sump pan for now and use the ignition and stuff from the race motor. The only thing I might need is a Carb. I only have the 1250cfm quickfuel carb from the race boat. I think thats a little too much carb for a 460ci motor lol.

Isn't a front sump bad news in a jet boat?
Will a truck pan fit? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6675-a460/overview/make/ford (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-6675-a460/overview/make/ford)
$160 for pan, oil pump & pickup, and dipstick and 1 pc. gasket...6 Qt. though.

TI need a set of wheels for this trailer as its sitting on blocks right now.

I may have two rims (not the prettiest) laying around for your trailer. I wouldn't trust the rubber on them though.

Let me know and I can post up some pictures.

The cap n paint project isnt until this winter. I will probably have Sam do it since its heritage lays with him.

Well I got the motor together and got it mounted as well as the pump installed. I still have to wire and plumb it as well as hook up the nozzle. Huge thanks to Sean (allfiredup) and his wife (Heather77) for their help and support this weekend to make all this progress.

So I dropped a intake valve in #6. The valve stem broke off and shot up through the intake manifold and dropped down into #3 and got stuck in the intake valve on that cylinder. No major damage to the short block. Just a little beat up. Since this a redneck build, I'm going to keep that theme going.

I'm going to smooth out the top of #6 (yes while still in the cylinder!) And have my aluminum heads from the race boat gone through (bent a valve during the last failure) and slap them on this motor.

Are the race heads going to mesh with this motor? I thought those heads were cut big? Is it worth the risk of hurting the race heads with this scabbed short block? Not criticizing at all I just know you'd be super bummed if those aluminum heads got f-ed up. Either way I'm super stoked to see you with a boat in the water and also that's its Sam's old Dana. That things BA.

actually ralph told me to run these heads originally on this build. its running the race boat's cam, lifters, push rods, and rockers. these pistons have more of a dish then the ones i ran previously with these heads so i dont have to worry about clearance.
