Sleekcraft 25 - Bravo 1 and BBC - 1976

Picked this up about 18 months ago and have been cleaning it up since.

before and after engine bay shots.

my next project is a Sleekcraft SSV - 1979.  I'll post a new thread.

i'm taking it out to Elsinore today for a test run.  I bought it with a Bravo 1 but with the restrictive Indmars it came with, it could only spin a 23p 3 blade at 5000rpm for gps 60 mph.  The guy who did the dyno work on my dual hi-rise BBC for the SSV i'm doing, said I could be losing a good 100 hp all on the top end.  I'm hoping the Mercruiser/Gil HP headers will let me spin a 26p  blade.  Here's hoping

I can almost guarantee you you will not bolt on 100 hp with exhaust, 30 maybe, but 100. Also, no way in hell that deal will spin a 26" at 5K if it only spun a 23" to 5k...

If you have realistic expectations you will be disappointed less often..

With the exhaust mods (we did the same on our Crusader, expect about 150 RPM and the ability to go up one pitch...

the Indmars were way too small for the motor with the B&M SC.  When I bought the boat, I also got all the receipts from GS Marine for building the motor.  I called Greg Shoemaker and he said the engine was dyno'd around 600 hp and that the little Indmars were so restrictive that I could be losing that much HP.  With the MercuryHP/Gil exhaust installed, I went out to Elsinore on Sunday and it spun a Bravo 26p 4 blade to 5000 rpm and I hit 65mph on GPS.  I'm thinking of dropping down to a 24p to gain a little rpm but I doubt it will effect my top speed.

my son had asked me if we should sell them on craigslist.  I told him that the old indmars were cracked and leaking and i wouldn't feel right selling them to anybody.  I own a cnc machine shop and we threw them in the 55 gal chip barrels and sold em to the scrap guy.  You wouldn't have wanted them.

Talked to Ron Hill after we got back, a great guy.  I gave him all the specs and he said that the 26p 4 blade bravo at 5k was pretty good. That prop is only 14.8 OD and I have quite a bit of slippage, but it is a heavy boat and I'm happy with the 65gps.

So I went over to see Ron Hill on Friday and showed him the SC25. He gave me a 24p 5 blade and a 23p 5 blade to try out at Elsinore on Saturday. What a great guy with a memory that won't quit. 15 years ago I made up a prop calculator using Filemaker Pro and with this I calculated the numbers.  We ran the 26p 4 Blade Bravo, the Ron Hill 24p 5 Blade, and the Ron Hill 23p 5 Blade.  Below are the calc sheets.
