Mouzer just got it back, but is now selling it. No registration, its out of the DMV's system and will have to be registered as homemade.

i would think that it would make the value go down, not having the south wind title

If it has an HID # you should be able to register it normally, like a trailer, once a boat always a boat.

Sometimes provisional registration (like what you do with a retired race hull that has a DMV issued HID)
is the way to go, you can call it what ever you want because it does not exist in the files of the DMV.

I'm not positive, but that's what I got out of it when I read it on PB.

I was looking at a boat on Craigslist and it said "no paperwork" so I called DMV (California) and the idiot I talked to said that if there was nothing on file and only a bill of sale that it couldn't be registered in CA.  Go figure that one out.   :screwy:  I asked about the HIN and was still told that they wouldn't register it.  Maybe it was just the idiot I talked to but it looks to me like they are just shooting themselves in the foot and loosing TAXES if they don't allow a vessel to be registered or re-registered.  I think if you register it as HOMEMADE, they only tax you on the materials cost.

I think if you register it as a home made boat it has to go through coast guard inspection and some other crap.

You may be right on that point.  That could be a painful and costly process.

my 71 rogers that had NO HIN's stamped in it....i had no title....nothing but a bill of sale....i was able to re-register it as a '71 rogers with no serious issues and only one trip to the DMV. it was not in the system either since it had been 14 years since its last registration.

anything is possible with the DMV....just who you deal with and how you approach it.
