Stringer build on my 19' Saguaro Jet boat
« on: January 13, 2016, 08:42:06 PM »
So I was prepping it to repaint and noticed a lump in the floor. I figured since I was repainting the boat I might as well also do the carpet since the motor was out. Floor was new but after further investigating the stringers were dust. So any and all recommendations are appreciated. I will hopefully have the rest of the stringers out tomorrow and start flap wheeling the old stuff off. I see a few places to get the resin but I am wondering what fiberglass people have used.

Has anyone seen a stringer step down from 2x5 to 2x2 after the engine compartment up to the front of the boat?

Today's update. Passenger side had about 2' of solid stringer of the 12' and so far 8' of the drivers side is shot. Pumps out and motor. Cutting and grinding away this weekend after TPM.

I would check the stringers if you have the floors out. There looks like some cracks in the pictures.. I got one complete side out and only 4' left on the other side.. Then the grinding starts.

Make sure the hulls get blocked and are dead nuts straight before any glass is laid down. You can do it in the trailer, but the bunks should not touch the bottom of the boat.

I use the three point method and strap the bow straight.

Thanks GT I will be pulling it from the trailer to put the stringers in. Going to make a stand as it's always nice to have and when done I can lend to others that have to do stringers.

Why grind so much? Peel what layers you can. It's unreal how much of that you could peel off in most cases. Grinding and sanding sucks ass.

Use a respirator,  not a dust mask. I use s full face air supplied respirator by 3M, i also have a filtered North. They really aren't that expensive. I think the North was just over $150.

If you can get a real sharp chisel and find the ends of the roving, you should be able to peel it like wallpaper. Really tough, really stuck wallpaper.

In some cases I can peel nearly 90% of the glass needing to be removed.

Then you can simply scruff the area, clean it with some MEK and start assembly.

I will give that a try in the morning. Thanks for the tip. I'm hoping to have it prepped by the weekend and start laying in the new stringers next week. Then flip the boat to prep the bottom for paint.

Got the boat all grounded down. Found no rear transom started taking off the intake and 5 bolts broke in the process. Any pointers to get it off now?
