16' Tahiti ?
« on: March 05, 2008, 08:59:40 PM »
Bought my first Jet boat new 1976 ,A 19' Miller Bubble deck then in 78' with the first youngin on the way I sold the Miller and was boatless for a few years . I the Mid 80's I found a cheap little "fixer upper' and was "bitten" by the Jet boat bug again  Its was a very fast (ill handling) little boat that had a 455 Olds and Berkeley jet but with an outboard type "splash well", anyhow  it served its purpose and we had a lot of good times  with it .When Josh was little we used to put a rear seat cushion between the front buckets and plunk him down between the front seats for the speed runs (he could barely see over the dash) . The strange thing was I alway thought/assumed it was a "Jury rigged' outboard "conversion" to a jet Until today !This is a boat I bought this afternoon check it out ! Tom

Tom
Does the one you just got have an actual splash well or is it a big hole covered with that pad ?   It realy seams like thay did some strange things back then.  The Tahiti I picked up a while back (for parts) has that realy long section of hull behind the motor, (I think whoever thought of that idea was an IDIOT !!!) and it was a PITA to get that pump out  :banghead:.  I was suprised no one had cut a hole in that hull to get access to the pump, battery, exhaust, etc

Although not that extreme, my Kona also has a section that covers the pump and it's a real pain to get into the hand hole; I have to use a mirror to look down in it.

It's waaayyy down on the list but I was thinking of cutting a hole directly above the hand hole for better access; problem is, I don't know what to rig there to cover the hole.

My Glastron has one of these above the inspection cover on the E-pump that actually goes into the hull/engine compartment :screwy:

I think the inexpensive ones are $10 and the expensive ones are $20.....you'll spend more on a milwaukee sawzall blade than that ;D, plus the silicone for around the outside, and a case of beer to get up the nerve to cut a hole like that in the boat........ so net net under $50

With as much beer as I drink, you wouldn't want me cutting a hole after a Tall Boy :P
