Title: What would you do?
Post by: Brad @ SCJB on June 19, 2014, 06:52:33 PM
Its like an ex that keeps coming around, taking your money and breaking your heart....but you never learn. It hasn't been touched in a year now still filled with oil and water. The trailer is sitting on blocks.

Will I ever forgive her? Will she ever forgive me?

Why did you stop runnin the boat

Broke a rod bolt 3 minutes off the trailer on a fresh build. I pulled the motor and put her in timeout. Funds just havent been there to do anything with her since.

Clean it, cover it and wait.  You'll either find a way yourself, or you'll find someone with an engine looking to get involved in compjet racing.  Either way, it's not costing you anything to let it sit for a while.

I feel ya, I just got the final bill for my new motor...the wife is not happy with me.  On a positive note, I'm really gonna need help at Long Beach.

I will be there... Love to help out anyway I can. Be honored.

Hell, the last time I helped someone out at Long Beach we won due to some really screwy circumstances...  :screwy:

Of course when I helped Brad at Burley, we blew shit up... Could go either way...  :o

why would you leave it filled with water?  get that tongue in the air, dry it out and get back on that horse.  one step at a time.

Maybe you missed its filled with 14+ quarts of oil....and was 40+ gallons of rain water. I pulled the cover a month or so ago and a ton of the water has evaporated... Gunna drain it into a 55 gallon drum here soon. Yeah, my fault for neglect, but I was in a bad spot when this thing let go last summer. It was my last concern at the time.

I have a motor I can piece together that I can put in it, but nothing competitive....so what's the point?

Flat black boat with a 7 gallon gas tank is no river cruiser lol

If you don't have the funds, it wont be fun...

I like to tinker. Maybe, when time permits, just tinker. Get her all cleaned up, go through it with a fine tooth comb and try to fix what I call little bugs.

The best part about tinkering is that it's free. I have been known to completely remove the wire harness and label and heat shrink each and every wire, take a sanding block and repair every single little paint run and aluminum scratch, you know, bullshit.

All it did for me was kept the dream somewhat alive. I was the single most brokest racer on the planet, we never even had a camera. All we ever used were those disposable deals that we stole from a wedding reception.

The boat has a mind of it's own, but no memory.

You and me next year at the Idaho Regatta bud.

I know projects and our "other girfriends or mistresses" (talking about the boats incase someone thinks otherwise)cost money to build and maintain and run. Why not try and see if anyone on here would like to help sponsor the boat to get it up and running again. make it the SCJB mascot. I would throw some $$$ your way to get it back up to go race. Or find parts.

She's all drained. Just a bunch of sludge left over. I'm gunna put some wheels on her this week and get it down to the local 'do it yourself' car wash and pressure was out the inside one of these evenings.

Omar - yes, I have plates but I need a few custom made parts. I need to draw them up in AutoCAD and find a good machinist.

Yeah been sponsored in the past....but now boat is currently painted with a rough texture so stickers won't stick.....so I'd have to have the sponsors names/logos painted on.....there's more to it....but yeah I just like how its running only the SCJB name now. I'd love the help, just don't know where things are going with this boat currently. Its in real rough shape.

not to mention how hard it is to get good people/sponsors to get behind a boat racing program now days, And even harder to keep them happy. Some people just have no idea the cost of boat racing now days its expensive. I know for us just to go to chandler or Havasu it's 1000$ weekend without entry and beer. I hope you can get some things together and get crazy eights back out racing again brad. If iam not racing I will be more than willing to help you out in the pits for sure. Also thanks again for all the help and support.

How does one go about getting a sponsorship I mean do you just walk in west marine and say Hi I'm Brad im racing this hear boat I'll put your name on it for x amount of dollars or do you have to put a portfolio together of all the races you'll attend snd this is how many people will see it?  How does it work I've always been curious?

Food and gas, it's about right. But the beer, entry, and other things. Yeah it's about 2.

That one way you can go about getting sponsored. How most deals that have gone down for the 177 boat were at the track and friends saying they would help us out.

Sponsorship is a funny thing.

We got sponsored once by a beer distributor. It was pretty cool because our boat happened to be Chrome yellow and the sponsor had these huge Miller genuine draft stickers that were for a delivery truck. Look pretty cool, especially for us broke ass posers.

Sponsorships normally come from friends of friends or someone that saw you do something they want to be associated with.

Ours happen to be the fact that we had matching tee shirts, we carried ourselves the best we knew how and we had a very pretty boat that was nicer looking than anything else we owned.

We launched the boat with a 1943 Willys Jeep and we were borrowing tools from the dude that built the hull, who at the time was also racing (obviously a different boat).

The kicker was that in black contact paper we had written on the deck of the boat "Your Name Here", which ironically was what they named the boat after the race.

Anyways. Just thought I would chime in. BTW, the sponsor paid for several pizzas, 55 gallons of gasoline (we were running pump gas per the class rules), a new distributor and gave us money for safety gear. All we had was some ski vests and old motorcycle helmets....

You just never know.
