Wanted to get some opinions on what brand batteries some of you guys are using. I bought 2 new interstate deep cycle srm24 are these any good or not just curious.

I have 2 of those batteries that I bought near 8 years ago. Both were in my chevelle for almost 4 years before I took one and stuck it in my dads boat and now have it in my boat. Great luck so far with em. Keep an eye on it, keep it clean and invest in a good automatic trickle charger.

the deal with interstates is this. there great until you let the charge get too low. it really takes a toll on them! but i do use interstate batts . that being said nothing like gell cell batts red top or yellow!

I run the kirkland deep cycle marine/rv batteries from Costco.
1st year free replacement, and Costco is great for returns. the batteries have held up well with no real issues

It is my understanding that in a boat that sees a lot of starting like when skiing or tubing, you don't want deep cycle batteries. They are better as a seperate supply for a big stereo that has long low pull needs, not occassional high pull demands. Is this right? I've always been happy with Interstates.

Exactly--
First time that I've had battery problems was with deep cycle marine batts. 500 cca, not enough for a stock BBC, (no wonder I went thru starters) let alone a high compression one. 850 for cranking battery, deep cycle for the stereo.

Got 2 maxx 29 from walmart...I can run my system all weekend. Never had starting issues or dead batts.

Ya I think I might go up to the 27 series instead of the 24 I have now. If I do that will I have to run a different alternator?

Get a perko and run them on all when cruising.. When you hit a sandbar switch to 1 or 2. If I stay for a few days I will run the opposite side to equal out the abuse. Keep them on a charge always when not in use. Your fine with just a regular alt. 24's aren't bad if you don't have a monster system. If you by chance have the room...1 good batt for starting then 2 batts ran in parallel for system. My 29's have always been the best for my drain.

I've got the two on a switch I have a system but I never really use it. Don't want to end up with dead battery.

Get the cheapest lead/acid deep cycles you can find and put maintainers on them.

regular car battery for starting and only starting. Deep cycle for stereo and only stereo. use a battery switch to switch between the two. when beached/floating with music use the deep cycle to play your favorite music. when done and ready to leave switch to the starting battery and fire it up and leave it alone till your next party session then switch back. Deep cycles are not designed for starting. And regular starting batteries are not designed to be discharged and recharged often.

Optima red top, mine sit all winter and when I turn the key for the first time in summer they crank rite up they are both three years old. Had one in the old race boat in 2007 and sunk the boat at Parker that batterers has been in my wife's car since 2008 and not showing any signs of getting week......
