OK, I've seen this term "jetaway" before on boats on Craigslist and tossed about on here, but what is it and what's it do exactly? Don't think I've ever seen one.

(I know I sound stupid, lol)

This is double drilled to the front of your pump in place of the bearing cap.
It acts like a rachet, when the motor rpm's decrease it allows the impellor to keep spinning to to relieve some of the pressure on the intake side.
An added bonus is the 2 knobs pull a sleeve forward disengaging the rachet teeth.
thus letting you run the motor independently of the pump

They are in the neighbor hood $1300 and Hi Tech does not keep them in stock which in turn drives the prices of the used peices to damn near new.
Seeing as how most people are willing to pay that price new, why wouldnt you keep a few in stock.
Or get busy building your own  :sly:

Nice little device that allows you to disconnect the pump from the motor and run the motor in the boat without damaging the pump. Cool, but pricey.

Yeah huh, VERY pricey for that feature, although I can see the benefit of the "free wheeling" feature, still not convinced it's worth the $1300 though.

I think it would be way more valuble for someone to have that has invested ALOT into their pump or someone that does alot of tuning and swapping of parts off the motor and is constantly running on the trailer.

No, what I mean is, when you lift, say coming in to beach it or enter a no wake zone, it would probably eliminate the need to look back and blip the throttle a bit to keep from swamping yourself, if I'm understanding it correctly, would also save the pump bearings during those conditions no matter why or how you lifted.

Still not worth it for that, yeah. I'm sure Tom and Josh have all sorts of uses for it though.

It's like a whirlaway for a v-drive, in case something bad happens to your motor at speed or I guess they also use popoffs to release pressure after a run.

its more of a 'race boat' part rather then a 'pleasure boat' part

if youre doing a 100+ mph pass and your motor shuts down for whatever reason, it will let your impeller keep turning letting water pass through.....your pump will act as a brake at those speeds when it stops.....lifting the ass end of the boat up and shoving the nose down causing a violent action after that....either you going straight over the deck or the boat pitching left or right in a violent bow steer with you going over the side or worse, throwing the boat into a real bad barrel roll.

its a safty product mainly....so the question is....how much is your life worth?

It is for saftey more than coolness. As brad said when you approach triple digits and something happens to the motor this device will help keep the boat from swaping ends. not to say you will still not come out but it is nice to have. I do not have one for the TX yet but when the new motor goes into it in a month or so it will have one installed. You have to move the motor forward by 5" to make room for it but well worth every penny imo.

I was really likin the idea until the "have to move the engine forward 5 inches". I'll plead the 5th on this one, since I'm getting started on the Saguaro for real this time next week, maybe there. Moving the engine forward in the Moo is out of the question, and don't know if it'll work on the JE in it anyway. You've ridden in the Moo Omar, and while not hitting full throttle, you know damn well I'm not near triple digits! (80's, oh yeah!).

More likely I'll try one in the Hallett Brad sent down here. (We've kinda dubbed it the Bradinator unofficially). Don't see the need in the Moo, no loader or stuffer, and I'm not real sure even with impeller changes and cav plates she's capable of triple digits, but I'm hoping to get closer to 90. And no real need in the Saguaro, which I plan to be MUCH milder than the Moo. The engine/pump combination for the Hallett dealio I've narrowed down to two directions (Neither is traditional, but none of my boats are), and neither of which is remotely sane or economical.

After the reverse bucket incident at Big River, I can easily see how an engine failure can toss you outta the boat! Damn near happened to me on that deal, tho this device wouldn'ta done a thing about that.

Nah, I have, a few times now, and 70'ish is where she is. Fine by me, as it is, really, lol, But 80's are not that far off and doable with tuning I think. (Could be on CRACK, but I think it can).

Not possible on the JE. I'm gonna hold off until I see where I'm going on the Hallett to try this........Definately worth some experimenting, lol
