Title: Looking for a 4.25" BBC crank... On the cheap, budget back up build.
Post by: GT Jets on August 11, 2014, 10:04:38 PM
So, Sunday afternoon I went to look at a "Like new Eagle 4.25" 4130 crank"... And a set of "Brodix Race Rite heads, just redone"

So I meet up with this cat, he shows me the crank and I asked him what he could tell me about it. Keep in mind, there is shit everywhere, I was shocked he could find anything in this mess of stuff, anything from lawn mowers to blower belts, literally...

He goes on to say that this crank has about three hours on it in a Camaro, there were no Camaro's anywhere I could see... And they went bigger and don't need this..

OK, fair enough... I pick it up, it looks really clean (almost too clean, KNOWHATAMEAN?) I stand it up snout up and thump the flange on the garage floor and it makes a dead "Thunk" not a nice crisp "Bing"... I tell the dude this crank is broke and it's junk... We argue for a minute, I grab my glasses (don't fukkin laugh) and a flashlight and within about four seconds, show him an almost full circle crack around the thrust flange... he gets real humble..

He takes me out to another little garage/shed looking deal to see the heads.. Picks one up, hands it to me and I said "Pro Comp"... He says "no, those are Brodix Race Rites", just came back from the machine shop... I basically set down the head and said thanks and left... Those heads did not say ANYTHING on them, anybody who is even slightly conscious knows that Brodix is stupid proud of their stuff and put there name and model numbers on everything they make.

Time to move on... He wanted $1,200 for everything, though it was too good to be true, but you have to check, you know? Frikken hillbillies...

Buyer beware....

So anyway, keeping my eyes peeled for a good set of aluminum heads (can be bare, I'm going to build them anyway) and a 4.25" crank, preferably forged but would consider nodular...

Lemmeknow Yo..

GT

Thanks peeps..
