What do you mean by too small? I always thought they used the same nut with this crazy bizarre washer...

I have to go look in the "junk" bucket....

Where are you located... I have a complete set-up from a donor boat I had.  If you make it easy for me I'll give it to you.
I'll be heading from Santa Barbara to Parker on Thursday am with a stop in Yucaipa to pick up parts I need.

Dude... Hate to disagree with you on an open forum, but the nut is the same exact thread as the steering cable.... Same nut, I am almost positive of it.

GT I have no issue you with you disagreeing with me if I'm wrong I want some one to tell me I am that how you learn right. I'm just saying the one that we pulled off the berk pump didn't fit. It was just a hair to small it wouldn't fit on to the tube. And it's hard see the pictures crapy but that's as far as it will push on

If you look at the threads on the inside of the nut, the old nut had flattened threads. That particular deal needs to be installed to the other end. Pull the cable nut off and the tube out and thread the new nut all the way on. I hope I am not steering you in the wrong direction, but there is no way it will take you more than 30 minutes to remove it and try it the other way...

I have the absolute most difficult time in the world believing it wont work.  The cable nut is the same exact threads as the tube... As is the Berkeley nut.

If I am wrong, I totally apologize... Did the old nut come off of that side, or did it split off?.

Yeah, that makes sense now. The tube is just an aluminum piece of pipe that has 7/8" UNF threads all the way down it. It will screw right on. Be sure to use some machine oil, Never Seize, Graphite key lock lube or something on the threads so it does not get galled up.

Good luck bro.
