Not that uncommon really, but do you really want to be climbing in around the motor and jet? I would think that boat sits low enough that getting out of the water by climbing in over the side would be easier. But then again I don't know your exact set up.

i bought some teak swim steps for my 18' challenger.. havent installed them yet but i am soon.. i have log and snails so if you are carful you can get around them no problem... plus some people arent strong enough to pull themselves over the side of the boat.. so having swim steps makes life alittle easier
