Mid Travel Manx build
« on: February 07, 2023, 05:10:23 PM »
Well I know we are trying to bring more traffic back to the forum and since my boat isnt really doing anything excpet sitting under a cover waiting for spring to come, I got Brads blessings to share my off-road build on here. Its going to be a mid-travel manx powered by an air-cooled VW, 2054cc with a turbo and fuel injection. All of the pics will pretty much be in chronological order but ill make separate posts kind of explaining whats going on in the pics.

I started off with a donor Baja bug that was IRS rear but had a link pin front so it was perfect for what i wanted. We stripped it down to the pan and saw that it was in pretty good shape other than the passenger pan half. We shortened the pan 14.25" to accomodate the Manx body and replaced the passenger pan half before moving it into the garage.

We then moved on to mocking up suspension and axles so we could see what modifications were going to have to be done. The rear we wanted coilovers and big CVs so, we had to go with torsion deleted and make reliefs in the frame horns to clear porsche 930 cvs. The rear will have 3x3 trailing arms as well. Up front we also went with coilovers so we got a 6" wider beam with 10" coilover towers, along with 4x1 larger front arms and through rods through the beam to get rid of the front torsions. We got rid of the stock steering box and went with a center mounted steering rack. All of the coilovers with be KING Shocks. 2.5 x 14 in the rear and 2.0 x 10 up front.
