looks like i am going to have to come up with about 2k to fix the bike and another 1k to get everything paid for for the catalina race. i am not sure if i can make this happen or not. i am good. but not that good.

That does suck and thats why I went back to 2 strokes. The repair bills are alot lower. My bike needs alot of work too after racing the last Hare & Hound National this last weekend. We'll be in Catalina also.

That sux big time.   People demanded factory like power, and so the average consumer now has factory type maintenance schedules that have to be kept, on complicated and finicky machinery.    Hey Tony, pull my CZ motor off the bench, replace a crank seal, stuff it in your aluminum frame, and go race the Lightweight class.   ;D                 Or not.

I checked with some industry people, but no motors available - sorry. :( Look for you on the island.

motor is at the machine shop now. going with a hotrod crank, athena rod, weisco 12.5/1 piston. Upgrading to R valves (the x ones are smaller) full port and polish job on the heads, stage one hot cam, dual race valve springs i think that is about it. this is pretty much the same set up the factory honda guys are running. only differnce is the use a 2002 R cam in their Xs instead of the hotcam i am putting in. But they are very similar only the hot came is about a hundred bucks cheaper. review will come once i get the beast back together next week.

Remember back in the day, when you bought a 4 stroke you expecting ultimate reliability and long life?   You knew you were sacrificing speed for durability.  Things certainly are different now.  The invention of the power valve was what moved me into a big bore.  I never wanted the hassle of the powervalve that every single 250 came to have.
Sorry to hear about the trouble Tony.  Hope it all come together for you.  Catalina will be one bitchen race!

my honda has had speed and durability. this is the first time ihave been inside the motor. It is a 2006 and is my everyday bike as well as my race bike. things dont last forever. I am suprised it did not happen sooner.
I have been doing my homework and i am going with pretty much the same set up as the pro honda teams run in baja. The strongest parts out there. Plus a lot more power by changing the cam and putting oversized valves in the intake and exhaust. she should be a pretty bullet proof beast when it is done. i cant wait.

i am going to break her in with a few trail rides, then USDR final round in 2 weeks. then the catalina race is on... hell ya.. i am going to get my butt kicked out there. haha
