This is definetly a newb question but what is the correct way to anchor a jet boat ?? I have heard bow out w/ anchor and then a shore line off the stern ? Any help is appreciated :banghead:

It will depend on where you are.
If you're in a cove with no wake and are hanging around you can nose up to shore with little problems.
But if you are trying to tie off on the river and have any chance of getting a wake over the back of the boat it is recommended to anchor with the nose out.
I anchor in a fast moving part of the river (Emerald Cove) using a Box Anchor and a bungie line out front and a regular anchor line and stake to shore. That way I can pull the boat into shore when loading and let it pull back away from shore when needed.
And sometimes when it is really rough I'll use an additional rope to one of the cleats to keep it from drifting to far from side to side.

This is PERFECT !! I love this forum !! I have a 21 ft Hawaiian jet....love it !! just got the Droop and diverter on her ! I had heard of the box anchor ( heard it was very good ) and the achor buddy!! Very good info thanks !!

Ya the box anchors work great, especially with the bungie rope in the front. With the fast moving water, and a shitload of wakes from passing boats mine dont even move. Sure beats the hell out of the way I used to do it, which was a milk crate full of rocks, and tied up :banghead:

but in all honesty.....now that i think of it....
lets say its 10' deep.......setting your anchor 70' out is a little excessive :screwy:

You were close to what I use, I do the milk jug and left over quikrete. ;D

To properly "anchor" a jet boat.
In forward motion, run the engine up to about 3500 RPM, run toward the shore for about 60 feet at that RPM then right before you hit the shore shut off the engine...LOL I guarantee it will not drift away :sly:

The distributor is in the correct location ;D
Yeh, it's a BBC. Probably a 454, but without checking bore and stroke it is a guess.

Great Thread!
How far out from shore do you typically anchor? (in the nose out position, assuming parking in or near sand). I would be parking on the river with a fast current and crowded beach and would rather not learn from my mistakes.
I almost had a heart attack last summer when some sand clogged the jet and i couldn't get the bucket to flip up! :o

I usually anchor nose out and the boat is in waist deep water..... ::)

Newbie here, so you can't just pull up to a shore like a sand bar instead on anchoring ?

Depending on how far out of the water your transom sticks you may want to anchor backwards. If i park nose first i get water splashing over the transom all day long soaking my motor, electronics, and filling the boat with water. It can also push sand against the bucket making it stick (not fun when you figure it out).
I started backing my boat in this year and I am not going back. I put a sand anchor in the front (if you are anchoring in rocks it sounds like the box anchor is the way to go) and another in the rear keeping my boat out about 10ft. This keeps the jet out of the sand and the boat from flooding all day. The two anchors keep tension on each other and the line absorbs any wakes or waves.

I had luck beaching the the bow and placing a line from each side (aft cleat) out to shore. I still havn't got my anchor to do its job yet. I don't have any chain on it yet tho, maybe I need to add a 7 foot length of 5/8 chain on it. It just doesn't get a good bite. It is a typical fluke style. I was debating on sharpening it a bit, maybe that will keep it from skating.

This seems the best way, I use a heavy weight instread of that pos anchor I have. I back in a drop it in and tie of to the front cleat now.

I use a box anchor for the bow and a slide anchor for the ski tow along with some Danik hooks.....
Nothing is easier than that ;)

ya you always want the nose end out or sideways. if the back is out your your getting waves in your ride and no one wants that.. ;)
