That is redic and stupid since they gave my boat a white glove/anal inspection when we drove home to Cali on the 15 fwy, makes that inspection seem pointless.

It's because of the black muscle . The guys with the big boats running in the ocean then they run them in the lakes is where that stuff came from

I feel ya I lived in ventura for 4 years and I sold my boat during that time because of the bull.
The only one you could go out on for the day was lake piru, it's about 5 feet by 10 feet so you might be able to turn around if your lucky.
-
U know how we fix this stuff vote them all out of office, don't want to get politics in this but that's where it comes from
-
The true story behind the 30 day deal is because the Colorado river is full of these things and they don't want it in the local lakes, I agree I think it's bullshit. The real way to fix it is just tell them the boat hasn't been in any water ways for the last 45 days or so. It works for me here on the central coast.

Shit next you know you guys are gonna go bad on me and wipe your ass with the Ca flag ;)

My boat is under "quarantine" right now. They found a mussel on my anchor the size of pin head (I didn't see it). 30 minutes at Vidal doing paperwork and then they put a cable through the bow eyelet and the trailer with a special seal on it so I can't launch the boat. They let me go and told me to call a number. I called the guy and he told me a minimum 1 week quarantine and to "take everything out of my boat and let it air out"... I call back Friday to find out what happens next.

they come to your house look inside the engine compartment, if everything is good they cut the cable and ur good. . Guess it's more of our tax dollars going towards someone's job security
-
But u know what the sucky part is when they say you can put your boat on the water , they will put a other tag on the hook when u pull your boat off the water and you can only run it there if u cut it u will have to go through the whole thing
-
I was talking to a member this week. He told me that while he was being inspected at Pyramid that if he didn't fire up his jet boat on the trailer, and rev the motor, it was an automatic fail. He did, and they quarantined him. Less than a quarter size spot of water hit the ground when he revved it up.

Yeah my friend has a jet ski washed it before he went had a drop of water on inside of it and they did the same thing to him

They made me do the same thing at Big Bear. Just made me put my boat on this stupid water pump for 15min. Hot water at that. Watching my temp gage rise very high sucked ass.

I would not even think about starting my boat on a trailer without removing the drive shaft. I choose to not go anywhere that will be doing this. Someone needs to get the memo out to the waterfowl till then we are fighting a losing battle.

Even with a jetaway, they would make you put it in gear, actual forward motion!
The person, a few cars in front of me... Had an outboard, they made him put the propeller in forward motion!!
Totally unsafe
It's absolutely ridiculous to have to start the engine in the first place!! If the bilge is dry and the boat is spotless... It fair to"assume" that the boat is clean!
No need to ruin people's day, and have a huge line of people for inspection just to turn everyone away who doesn't have a bow cable for the lake!
Best part of my "fail" receipt - the inspector marked
Last time in water - NEW!
Lake last launched at - Never, brand new!!
Let's not even mention how mad I was!

There is no appeal for a failed "new" boat?
Has this process changed since 2011?

I'm sure there is an appeal that can be made- but I'm sure it would take ALOT more time and energy than what it's worth. They have a whole computer system that stores your cf#- once you're there... No California lakes for
7 day quarantine... I waited to run my boat this long, I'll wait another week and already have.
...The only normal local lake
Process changed since last summer- I never heard of starting the engine till I went this last time.
I'm sure they "pick and choose" who fails and who doesn't

you got that right! (in the words of george lopez...... Mas PUto!!)
last time, and only time, i ran my boat it was at perris.....back in 2013 i believe. told my boat to bend over and cough.....but didnt ask to fire engine.
back then checks consisted of visual inspection of trailer....they asked me to pull bilge plug....open engine hatch....and that was it. no safety gear, no engine start.....which im sure i would have failed then. i didnt drain the block/exhaust....in fact, i stopped short of booth out of sight to double check bilge....sure enough, water. i quickly dried it....and proceeded to inspection.
i knew before hand they were serious about evidence of water. cant even wash your boat the day before....i avoid puddles and sprinklers on my way there....
-
Update on my situation...I called this morning and they told me to remove the cable and Mail the tag back to them.

What harm would that do? I don't see the concern, we used to run steam through engines all the time. It won't hurt anything...

Makes sense to me.... I don't get the fuss...
Just had to comment.
If this issue gets out of hand more than it already has, it will completely destroy the water supply infrastructure of many cities within California.
I have seen first hand at what these little fukkers can do.
The alternative is for the public officials to shut down recreational boating for good on any lakes, it's not a right, it's a privilege. It's been done before, the lakes aren't there for boating, it's there for a healthy water supply. 90% of the public could give two shits if you were allowed to go boating. Be grateful we have what we do. Stop being a snivley taker.
Take this issue seriously, you cannot even bring a boat into Idaho without going through an inspection... Not at all. And they can and do quarantine you if you fail. Drastic measures have to be taken.
A few examples of what these little bastards can do...

It's real guys, I guarantee you it's not a money maker for California.
Nevada just missed the warning signs. It had to start somewhere... We don't have the water resources to screw around...
Rant over. Sorry if I offend.... (not really).

If the boat was built in Nevada or Arizona, it very well could have been contaminated.
Not saying I'm not sorry for the trouble, but it only takes one boat.
No one has come up with a solution, this is what we have. I understand it and work around it.

My boat was originally built in San Fernando valley, and then restored in San Fernando valley as well. It's a Spectra
LV/AZ have not been part of this boats history for at least the last 12 years. Hadn't been in the water for 10 before I got it, and I restored it over two years time.
I understand, and respect their inspections... There is a reasonable procedure that should be followed, and not crossed into ridiculousness...
Starting the engine on the trailer, and putting it into gear, mind you... Is just plain ridiculous and foolish
My boat was absolutely dry everywhere!!
But starting the motor dripped a drop on the ground...
And my "new " boat failed.

Here's the thing. I understand what you are saying, at the same time, do you have any idea how many times this has been said "it's brand new, never been in the water"?...
Better safe than sorry, if California has done ANYTHING right over the last ten years, it is the actions on this epidemic. I still see room for improvement. It may still be all for not, meaning it will have been for nothing if total buy off is not met.

Common sense on inspectors behalf is most important!!
My boat didn't have a THING in it... Not even a rope...nothing!! Everything was in my truck, spotless for their high power microscopes
Carpet easily passes for operating room sterility!
Oh, and registration papers completed day prior👍🏻
What I'm saying is what they are doing is right! But inspect correctly, and use common sense!!
Please! Explain the necessity to put the vessel in gear?

You said common sense... In a government official? Are you on crack?
You got me on the in gear thing. It's simply retarded. :screwy:
If someone asked my to start my boat dry on the road, I would simply load up my shit and leave, but not before writing Moonbeam a nasty letter stating my distrust in the people they have running the show.
But that would be my choice. Most of the time it is an interpretation issue... Sort of like Facebook, you can say one thing and more often than not it's taken a totally different direction.

You know why government officials lack common sense...
Like I indicated before... The system!
They are just there as puppets! They do what they are told- no common sense!
Exactly why so many jobs are getting replaced with robots
Some idiot above her told her you must do this this and this... And she does it. Without actually thinking about why the hell she's asking one to do such things!
Writing and appealing any of these irrational decisions takes a lot more time than I care to invest.

No argument from me, I actually just this week had to educate a building inspector on four different things on a job I just did, he was trying to get me to change a bunch of stuff that would have been not only expensive, but against the codes he was trying to protect.
When it was all said and done and the paper signed I asked him how in the hell did he get this job? He just smiled and said he was a former contractor and was on disability so he could no longer do the physical work....

Got a couple ligament questions:
If you have a jet-a-way, how would anyone know if you have it engaged or not?
On a jet boat, are they looking to see the reverse bucket go up and down? Does anyone look to see if the impeller is actually spinning?
I have never seen a car start cold that didn't have a few drops of condensation drip from the exhaust. Granted, I have never thought to look for this on a boat, but I can't imagine that it wouldn't occur there also. Does that mean that everything automatically fails, even if new?
Thanks,
Joe
