The boat Passed Inspection!!!! No more spending an arm and a leg to drive to Lake Piru for crappy chopped up water! It was costing me pretty much $100bucks depending if I needed gas in the truck to drive an hour and a half to Lake Piru for test and tune. Not anymore. Now its back to driving 4 miles from my driveway to the front gate at Casitas. I've been waiting for summer to be over so that I can do this.
The inspection: Pretty simple. The ranger is a cool old timer. He said he loves inspecting jet boats because he doesnt have to hop up in or stick his head down any wierd engine compartments. He basically walked around, checked the bilge and what not for any water. I filled out some basic paperwork, then he put on the cable and lock (which are mine now) with a tamper proof clip (which is theres). He said that rangers have caught people tampering with the clip. Going so far as to cut the cable and use shrink wrap to put it back together. It was $50bucks for the inspection and lock and key. Now I'm waiting out the 10 day quarintine till I can use the lake. Since its coming into winter time, I dont think I will be tampering with this system. If caught your done at Casitas!
Looking forward to getting out there and spending some real time (not rushed) on smooth water to get this boat dialed in for next season.... Becuase there is this guy Jermey with a '78Cole with a BBF who just needs to be spanked real bad by a Chevy guy!!!j/k ;)

How does the cable thing work? Something attached to the trailer, or boat itself? Can you use the boat at other places? I figure it's for the quagga clam things but am curious about this cable. Maybe a pic? Oh, and congratz on the place to play O0 Going to be nice to only have to burn gas in the boat!

I will post pics tomorrow of the cable and lock. Still nursing a Holloween hangover! :banghead:ouch, ouch, ouch!

Trick or DRINK!!!!!! >:D ;D

Rolling out to Casitas on Sunday. Bringing the gps and camera to finally establish a base line for this boat. Im hoping for 85+ and that would make me happy. I will take some pics of the cable, lock, and tamper proof clip for all to see.
Wish me luck!

I say 85 because I dont really know how the boat is going to handle at that speed. It seems like it rides pretty dry. Everytime I've stepped on it the water conditions were not optimum for fast passes. You know what I had before...I'd be lying if I said I wont be a little scared on Sunday. I saw a boat flip over at Lost Lake which left a big impression on me...do I really want to go this fast?
Don't worry I'll let my balls drop so that I can finally put some numbers on this thing! :o

Good for you n8 . Best thing you can do is respect the boat . Get comfortable with the boat at speed and work on it from there . That boat has had the best hands on it . Good luck and I cant wait to see some numbers .

The verdict is in. My boat ran 83.4mph. :'( Thats with 30 gallons of 100 octane and just myself in the boat.
Made two passes. Then the motor started to sound a little funny so I was pressed for time. I'll take a look at it later.
Looking forward to trying it again!
Hey Omar- Do you still have your turbos?
-
Congradulations, 83.4 is great for a first couple runs on good water.

thanks but the motor still feels like it has alot more in it. Might be a turbo issue.
-
Make sure the carb is boost referenced . I dont think they came referenced origanally . No I dont have my turbos anymore . I dont remember that motor needing 100 octane either unless something has changed ???

The carb is boost referenced. The boost used to only go up to 7-8lbs. Now its jumped all the way up to 15-18lbs and I need the race gas in her. I dont know what happened. Hasn't really ran all that great since I took it over and no body seems to know why the boost would jump that high. Ive checked all bypass holes, replaces all turbo hoses with the right ones. :-\ I've checked just everything that I can check without tearing it down completly. Going to tear the turbos apart and maybe a complete teardown of the motor as well this winter.

The turbo is an easy one , and they shouldnt be makeing anywhere near that much boost .

thats what I was thinking

You should talk to Bob's engine builder . See what he says .

emailed Bob to get Andy Holmans number and no response yet.
Anybody know this guy?

First things first is it Manuel control boost are does it have solenoids that control the boost, wastegate diaphragms check all hose's for cracks if one of these are not working properly that will be the first check.for the boost to be going up that hi its taking in air check and recheck.

Hey Nate,
went out last wed. and passed the inspection I am good to go this sat. 11/24. I'll be out there bright and early ;D

Hye Brian , he has the same kit I had if you remember it at all . It had the hole in the exhaust side of the turbo as an internal wastegate so it's only supposed to make about 7lbs of boost .

He's got to be taking air from somewhere, are the waste gate stuck open, definitely over look something.

with an internal waste gate you can adjust the "blow off" point with a wrench. if you tighten (shorten) the rod the waste gate will open faster meaning less boost. loosen the rod and the waste gate will stay closed longer, creating more boost. the turbo its self has nothing to do with the boost really. the intake side of the turbo can have a bigger ratio from the exhaust wheel making it spin slower making less boost. normal turbos that have oil type bushings will spin around 120,000 rpm before they come apart, and the only way to change the boost is by a waste gate. the wheels will change how fast the turbo will start creating boost. for example if your motor only turned 5000rpm the turbos might have not been spinning as hard there for making less boost. if you have changed the carb jetting, fuel, timing, anything really to increase the rpm you could pick up more boost. if it was me i would weld the internal waste gate hole shut and run an external waste gate that you can adjust, like for different alt, and different fuels. when i ran volkswagens with turbos on them the motor would make boost quicker when it was cold and the air was thick, but with an external waste gate it would always pop off where ever i set it. but just my .02
