Title: Over transom exhaust at Eslinore
Post by: Nick on March 26, 2009, 08:31:41 PM
I am sure there are a bunch of you that have gone there with OT headers right? Do they require baffles or can you get in without them?

No problem. No lake police on the water this time of year anyways. ;D

Not by choice. Trust me. Just go there to do testing and get a little water time. When the water gets a little warmer you WILL find me in the Inlet Channel making that slalom course my bitch ;D

Sorry Nick in advance for the "thread jack"...But hey..Flytime...where is this slalom course at Elsinore you speak of izzit open all the time and izzit open to the public? What end of the lake? :sly:  Tracy aka "Skee"

Tracy,
It is located at the east end of the lake between coors cove and the launch ramp. It is open to the public. You have to rent it through California Skier and the nice part about it is they only rent it to "x" amount of boats and only one boat runs at a time so you always have smooth water. They dont allow jet boats back there  only tournament boats ;D. One of the reasons I converted. :screwy: If you go to www.californiaskier.com and click on Rental Lakes it tells you all about it.

I've never been hassled but I have baffles in my OT pipes.

I've been told that they will have you start it on the ramp and send you away if they don't like it.

Nick,
If you launch at the west end ramp I really doubt they will say anything. I say go for it.

ok a little late I know but here is some follow up for you guys. if you go the ramp that is closest to the channel, nobody even thinks twice about what you got, they didnt even ask...

there is no way I am going to baffles for this thing Brian, once I get this boat out to the river their will never be a need for them, I just get worried at these local lakes where they have law all over the place....

WOW thats funny i never have problems at the north ramp the old guy never bothers me, i've had the problems at the east ramp (the new one)
the riverside sheriff are on that ramp and shut me down but the crappy part is they do it all by ear, no reader, so it changes one cop to another.

I had a client that said he got a decible meter at Radio Shack.

Next time they harass you hand them a 100' tape measure and the DB meter and ask them to verify that you exceed the limit or shut the hell up (nicely  ;) )

j/k

Here ya go;
Level Measurement Procedure for Pleasure Motorboats (SAE J2005):
90 dB (A) for engines manufactured before January 1, 1993.
88 dB (A) for engines manufactured on or after January 1, 1993.
All motorboat noises levels must be below 75 dB (A) when measured by the
Shoreline Sound Level Measurement Procedure (SAE J1970).

Hey guys might want to check your state law for where they actually measure the Db's.. Here in Utah they measure at 1 meter from the rear of the transom at idle.. Even with baffles i'm almost 110 db.. not even close to 90 db's.. Some places bother us some don't.. Hope that will help..

Also in Utah I think newer boats have slightly stricter(sp?) db limit than the older ones, like 2 or 3 db.lol The one time I was hastled I point blanked the leo and asked him what is the limit? is it on the water at idle or on the trailer? His response was I dunno? They told me mufflers=no ticket, no mufflers = ticket. Hey osbo you headin out today? Is it windy up there too?
