I am torn on the pictures message. I am leaving for Colorado to go snowboarding for a week in less then 6 hours, and without winter that wouldnt be possible. But man I cant wait until I can be on a boat at the river cocktail in hand!

Boats are cool but snow skiing is way more fun than anything you can do behind a boat. Although I really want to try one of those air chair thingys. Hell this is So Cal where they even have a race where you run the ski the course at Canyon Lake, surf at Huntington (I believe) and ski at Big Bear in the same weekend. Some of you guys need to broaden your interests a bit. ;D

Omitting the surfing, I did that; when I first moved here me and my buddies water skied all day on Saturday then snow skiied all day on Sunday in the same weekend; just to do it.
I agree and disagree with GC; my favorite was always water skiing because I MUCH prefer warm weather to cold; nevertheless, snow skiing was more of a rush (the kind I did). Also did a lot of scuba diving (another rush), 1 skydive, etc, etc, etc.

there was a glitch in the star settings that i fixed.
and yes, they go up in increments of your status.

If you're going to Mammoth, say hello to 'DropOut' and 'WipeOut' for me (spent alot of time with them; sometimes they beat me, sometimes I beat them); if I recalled the names correctly, they're just below chair 23 between the Cornice and Scottys.

YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN CORNICE!!!!!!!!! two weeks ago, it was incredible. Had the typical wind blown drop off at the top. literally STRAIGHT drop for 15' from the top. Only option is to jump. SOO much fun, a lot of inexperienced skiers on it so it was difficult avoiding them and at the same time handling the 4' POWDER moguls. They were more like motocross berms. As for me, I'm not a great skier but going slow is not an option. Had some awesome instruction over the trip, and some great powder. Just wish I didn't have to spend so much time teaching the old lady, but hey first trip and shes bombing Canyon...

Dunno bout that; crash&burn on a ski run (provided no boulders involved) is a softer landing than crash&burn on a water ski going 100.

One of the funniest times of my life (now but scarey then) was January 1989 at Mammoth. I go to the top of the mountain with 2 buddies who are going to ski Cornice. I am only there to snap a couple pics. While standing on the edge, one of my buds isn't paying attention and falls over the 5-6 ft lip and cartwheels a long fkn ways down the hill. Remarkably no injuries. Funny as hell later that day tho.

i used to ski when i was a teenager then got hurt and never went back. the bottom line for me was, i sucked

You'll go a long way down that hill before coming to a stop; I lost an edge a couple times there but never fell from top to bottom; thing about Cornice is there are no rocks to collide with; you just have to ride it out.
My scariest time was on Wipe Out or Drop Out (can't remember which is which); it's VERY narrow with a lot of BIG rocks; I was making the infamous "one last run" and lost an edge; no stopping there but at least I was 3/4 way down and most of the boulders behind me.

I bailed on my last run down cornice this year... Just snowed 4-6 feet so the snow was deep. Lost my left ski and catapulted a good 30-40 feet down the hill as I was buried in the snow face up I see a pair of skis go right over my head... Snow was DEEP. Then I had to find my other ski and two poles.

Yeah yeah yeah but at least you were at Mammoth. I haven't been able to get away in several years now. Not sure how much I want to considering the prices tho. It sure ain't like it used to be.

In Winter Park, Colorado for a week this trip. Will be boarding Breckenridge, Vail, Copper Mountain and Winter Park! Havent been to Mammoth in a couple years. Mainly because the rates to stay anywhere have gotten ridiculous!
Anyone got a place there they want to loan? ;D

Since according to my wife I'm always on this site and she thinks I have serious issues. And since I'm retired ill be moving up the ladder pretty quick.... :^)
