When I went to the members section i was amazed at how many people had zeros for posts! That is rediculous why would sign up if you had no intentions on being part of the so cal jet boats community!

O.K I went and counted and there are 65 people who are registered and have never posted at all!!!!!

I agree Marc.

I assume people just sign up and forget about it. Thats why I send out news letters from time to time to remind people about the site.

For now, I need to fix the broken stuff around here before I start promoting the site too much. Still waiting on some answers about some broken code  :-\

I dont understand the whole sign up and dont post . Its not like you have to sign up to view anything .

I'll think of something . ::)

I usually sign in (and not post) so that I can easily see the new posts because they got that "new post" sign on them. I usually don't post because I got other things to do than sit behind my computer hunting and pecking with my two fingers. I find it more interesting that the site is virtually dead on the weekends but as soon as everybody goes back to work the new posts start coming in. :) . Rod.

At least you post every once and a while . I am a hunt and peck specialist . I've never worked in front of a computer so that is weird to me . With two small kids (6 y/o and a 5 m/o) I am always home with nothing to , can you tell.

I see that this thread has been dead for some time but felt it had some information that was of intrest.

I went back through the members list and counted how many newbies there were that have never posted, and I was amazed  :o

Out of 588 members there were 293 with no posts at all, that's half of the members that are not giving any input  :'(  and a lot more that only have 1 or 2 posts.

COME ON PEOPLE, GET OFF YOUR *** AND SAY SOMETHING!

Start by posting a pic of your boat, wife, or anything of intrest, the rest of us will follow through and make it intersting  ;D

This is a great site for shooting the sh*t, asking questions about boats (including blenders  ;)) and just hanging out, but it does require people to participate to keep it going.

Thank you and good night!

P.S.  Hey Brad, the member list says 588 members and the counter on the home page shows 633 members, Have you been deleting spammers without correcting your totals  >:D

Title: Re: Newbie section
Post by: Brad @ SCJB on September 22, 2007, 12:48:40 AM
that number is a generated number that counts every account on this site and doesnt take into account some other factors where as the member list doesnt show members who havent activated their account by clicking the link in the email (theres 28 of those)....and banned users (spammers) that i have to weed out and delete one of these days.

....and for the record, the other day...the 1,000th member signed up the other day (jetlover) if you include every account ever created.

...about 400 accounts have been deleted because they were spammers.

Reguardless, this site has exceeded (by a land slide) all expectations I had for it in its first year. It will be 1 year old on October 26th. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of making this happen.

I appreciate what you do and think SCJB is a great place to spend time (too much if you ask my wife  >:D).

I just don't want it to slow down because the season is nearly over and people stop thinking about there boats.  If there are that many people lurking that need a little push to get them involved I wanna help push.

Thanks Brad for giving us a great place to hang out  ;D

Santa Rosa?   Just call GT, he always wants another boat.

But if you really want to open it up to everyone, in the upper left corner of the home page when you roll over the Forum title, it will show a pulldown menu.  Classified is ab out 3 down the list.

Mentioned this to another member thought I'd throw it out here since I'm a "newbie" - I picked up a 20' 1977 Manta Ray jet- it's got a 460 super cobra jet w/ DOVE 'C' heads, Berkley pump and other than updated ign parts, carb spacer and Holley 750 it's stock! But I can't find any info other than the worthless stuff when you google the name. Curious if anybody knows about it, someone else who has one, anything?

Nice lookning boat, Bwarren21!

Don't know anything about them, but according to the coast guard site, the manufacture identification code for Manta Ray Boats is probably MTU. Is this what's on your boat?

Here's the link

http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=MTU (http://www.uscgboating.org/recalls/mic_detail.aspx?id=MTU)

In business 1976 and based out of Sun City and ran by Guy Hahn. Were back in business in 1997 under B&M Automarine at the same location ran by Michael Lemire. Both MIC's show out of business 2002.

Maybe those names, or phone numbers might get you some leads.

If your ID plate doesn't start with MTU then just ignore all of this  :D

Went to my first meet last year with no boat, just hung out at the Avi, ended up making some very good buds out there. Bought a boat 3 months later, now once it's back together I will be at every gathering making more friends.

That's freakin awesome!
Ha ha!

The Avi and Bluewater are great places to go boatless because there is so much other stuff to do with the women, if she comes along of course.

Hey guys know painting in your garage makes a mess. Do custom painting but just be careful because plastic can create static electricity and that and flammable fumes sometimes don't like each other!!!!!

That helps not saying any bad just some people don't realize that plastic will spark and think will pull dust to it to keep off paint and is true becomes of static! It's fun painting just lot of work I am sure your finding out!!!!!

That's a gentleman's hot rod kind of like a Cadillac El Dorado or a letter series Chrysler 300 back in the day,  the kind of boat you drink a martini from.
