Hi, I'm new to this forum and I'm also a guy that loves boats but doesn't know much about them! last year i bought a 1977 Tahiti ford 460 with a Berks pump. The engine was refurbished but took a poop on me during lake water testing, the engine lost oil pressure therefore it had to be reopened and put back to specs. That being said, I'm in the process of replacing the old steering cable with a new uflex rack and pinion kit but I do not like the fitment of the new cable system. I wish i could use the old parts with the new cable to have the boat looking as a 1977 boat, the way it should look. As I was working on the dashboard, I opened a hole on the new plastic bezel as I tried to pry out the key way adapter during cable installation....and now everything is looking as ugly as it can be, lol! I also bought a new anodized black Bezel to be used instead of the ugly plastic Bezel that comes with the new kit/new system.....but to my disappointment, there seem to be a need for an spacer to go in between the Bezel and the adapter. I put everything together but since there was no spacer between the bezel and adapter, I scraped the black bezel during steering wheel rotation and now looks cosmetically ugly. Please notice that I bought a full rack and pinion kit from Performance Jet in Sebastopol, CA. Am I the only one that is having issues replacing the old system with the new cable kit? Do you guys know a boat shop in Los Angeles or have any idea on which parts are needed to modify the new rack and pinion system?......Old cable # is Morse E300620 192inch 1382P. Please be gentle if my boat terminology is not the best there is, lol! Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you!
