The only thing I have is a gate valve no relief valve. The valve you might me seeing is my Header T for the header before the headers. I guessing HP is around 450 and up but no higher then 500. At ideal I'm at about 130 140 temp. Driving at 3000 to 4,500 and 5000 I'm at 100 if that. My dump is 1/2in and yes it reduces down at the end on transom. Might be on to something there. Also I will turn my gate valve down a little. I'm thinking I just have to much pressure but that's just a guess. The motor is fresh rebuilt and about 5 trips on it. No issue on performance at all motor rocks besides milky oil. Oil pressure is good and stays good the hole time. I'm going to check some things out and reset some things. Hope it get better. Thanks a bunch GT for your info. :-)

Your outlet on the dump fitting needs to be between 3/8" and 7/16", your temperature really needs to be at about 150*F at idle, should drop to about 120 at WOT. If the dump is too small, the pressure will build too high. The temperatures seem reasonable, the problem is, if the dump line is too small, that really accentuates the pressure problem.
Pick up an over sized dump fitting, or drill the one you have to about 7/16" and throttle the gate until the motor reaches 150 degrees at idle and the headers are starting to mist close to 1800 RPM.
This will eliminate any and all issues with pressure.
Are you running an oil cooler?
Do you have an oil temperature gauge? I think you have a simple problem.
exact example of the infamous Gate Valve.
If not set right WAY TOO much pressure coming through your gaskets Its not the PCV its the pressure from the pump forcing the water past your gaskets.
This is why I dont like the gate the gate isnt necessarily the issue but the lack of knowledge operating it. Now be carefull not to back it down too much and blue those headers. Gt does have a good procedure to set the gate up I forget what it is but I'm sure he will let you know.
Youll get it right this is just my point to a T of why I like the whole relief thing it isnt that I dont like the gate valve itself it just sucks to pay the price for not having the Gate set up right.
You want the water from the pump to cool the motor why don't you wanna dump the excess pressure overboard??? You can with a relief set up a gate is a lil trickier thats all I'm trying to point out
While I will agree that the set up is a bit cumbersome at the beginning, it really is a set it and forget it system once it works.
The issue is, if something is missed, or miscalculated, it wont work. The system you have used does make slop count the same as skill, just don't like all the moving parts, especially on a river deal, the sand will make life miserable.
Your point is taken....
