Title: Newbie
Post by: Young Buck on July 21, 2020, 08:10:06 PM
Never been involved with the forum stuff much, but seeing as how I am going to keep this boat for a while, I might as well join the club and get my reading glasses out. I am the fairly new owner of a 1979 Pioneer (Outlaw??). My dad bought the boat in 1981, sold it to a friend in the early 2000's and I bought it back last summer. Shes got a 454 with a Berkeley pump. Currently living outside of Salem, Oregon but my dad bought the boat in Cali back in the day. Pretty excited to read what all you guys are up to. If anyone knows much about the Pioneers I would be very interested to hear more about them. Seems like they're not too common.

Welcome to SCJB. Pioneers are not too common, but there have been a few that have been around. Supposed to be good, solid boats. Here is a thread that has some info on them. Good looking boat.

I've taken the boat to the Willamette River out of Wilsonville, but on nice days its just about as bad as being out in the Perfect Storm. Usually its out to Detroit or on longer weekends I go to Billy Chinook

We usually go to the Willamette in Independence. The wake boats can’t run too many areas there, mostly jet boats. Rogue brewery has a spot a ways up river that can be reached with the jet boats if you’re into that, not sure about it’s status with the COVID though.

Detroit can be pretty rough on the jet boats except if you get out there first thing in the AM for a quick run and wake up the campers, choppy in the open water unless u get back in a protected arm. The river is 13 minutes from my house, so we like to go for a couple hours after work during the week.

I am still learning when/where to go. The wake from those wake surfers will just about snap the boat in half if you hit it wrong. Camped at Billy Chinook last weekend and it was pretty amazing to get some evening runs in with no one out there and the sunset in the background.

That's pretty sweet you're so close to the river. Is there a launch ramp in Independence? I never been to that part of the river before

Yeah it’s a new ramp/park they built a couple years ago. You turn off the highway left between the A1 market and an old log trucking yard. The road takes u past some new apartments then straight down to the ramp parking lot.
