Awesome Aqua!!!
Mine went backwards. worked late on the motor last nite. Long block together.
Went through the hastel of shiming the rocker stands for the coorect preload on the Olds.
Button up the bottom end after putting in the drainback tubes in the pan. Sweet! I stagger home.
I bailed on work just now cause the lake is calling me. I go to drop the oil pump shaft in and then
#$**%#^ 'ing realize it goes in from the bottom.I make some calls ...no luck with finding new oil pan gaskets today. I might not get wet this weekend. :-[

I've been stone cold broke and haavenot gotten my motor together till now.
The pump shaft is fine. I was supposed to install it before putting the oil pump on.
There are washers to prevent it from riding up in the dizzy. I'm gonna try to save the pan gaskets. I put a thin spred of silly on both sides of the gasket. It usually tears the cork. :-\

I usualy try to just sickey one side of gaskets, silly in joints, just so you can get back in there and out again if you have to. Had pretty good luck w/ leaks etc.

Should he run it over repeatety with his truck before installing said oil pan ? ;D

HD I usualy do that with the rubber ones. I've had bad luck doing it with cork though.
Now to get the windage tray out,then the oil pump. Safty wire is great exept when go take it off.
I usually wind up bleeding.

My other friend put some on his blown bbc. Loved it. I'm digging your boat also! The paint is falling off mine. I made some cool pcs you'd like. I incorperated my fuel log and regulator into my carb spacer.
Stuff like that.

I think those "washers" are to keep the shaft in place IF you needed to pull the distributor. A little late now, but you could've just taken them off and fed the shaft in from the top. The down side is it IS possible to drop the shaft all the way to the bottom of the pan next time you pull the distributor out.....Get 'er wet........Happy boating...........MP

Rays correct IMO ,the spring washer is an assembly "deal" to keep the drive rod from droping out or coming up with the dizzy (then dropping bak into the pan ;D) (fords and olds) Just drop it in CAREFULLY with the needle nose's Now Fatty HD drive rods and Chevy's are a different story (forgot one or two of those ourselves ;))

Yeah way too late, but I did the same on my Ford. I just pushed the washer down and grabbed one end with a spring loaded "bolt grabber" with the claw type end and carefully dropped it back in to the oil pump hole. If you do happen do drop it the washer will catch it before it gets to far to retrieve. Then just fix it next time you pull the engine.
