Anyone near me (Placentia/Fullerton) know anything about a 2 stroke motor?
It revs super high when the throttle is not pressed, and it dies out until full throttle. Then revs up super high again. I just replaced the starter and now it's doing this. I was told it's a possible air leak, but I'm not sure what that means...

Ha, recently rebuilt the carb, new starter, primer kit. It's an 89 550. But it think I found the problem... Don't know what that's called, I just know it's on the front side, closest to the tank, and there is suppose to be a plug there.

I've never had to mess with it out of the water, is that where I'm suppose to attach the water hose?

Okay, so I think we have upgraded** to the carb tuning being all out of wack... Work a new starter change that much? I had it out the weekend before Labor day and it ran good, little high on the mid but good. Or is it just being out the water making it that much different?

Oh hell no do not put water in there, that is where you r magneto is To me after what you have said you have F'ed up your carb rebuild. The 2 550's we had one was stock and the other I built, and the fricking thing hauled ass!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I'm not super mechanical. Just pick up things that I'm told. I learn fast and only have to be shown something once. But with that said, yeah I think I f'ed up the tuning of the carb. I put it back to what it was at before, or at least I thought I did. But the low is good and it doesn't sound weird or bog at full, it's the mid that's all screwy. But even then not bring able to keep it on long without water is hard to figure it out.
Sucks not being able to water test it and play with it...

Buy a water kit. Cheap, easy to install, basically just a hose with a hose end on it. Hook a garden hose on it and run it all day if ya wanted to.

We used to use'em before every trip to make sure they were running tits. Last thing I wanted to do at the river or lake was to wrench on em   I don't quite remember where they were hooked up on my olde skis. I'll look later this afternoon on the newer ones and see where they are. Should be pretty much the same. Just an added FYI, shouldn't run it too long off the water, you can warp the head pretty easy.
