If the back keeps going the way it is and the boat interior is done by then, I wanna go to Martinez. I'm trying to talk Sue into hitting Martinez this Saturday.

Well, it's not in SoCal, but I will be at Shaver Lake for the fourth. Located about 50 mi northeast of Fresno, at an elevation of 5500 ft, it is a beautiful (and cool--daytime temps in the high 70s/low 80s) place to boat. Fireworks are planned for Saturday, the fifth. Here are a few pictures taken last Saturday at about 4:00.

Sanger Pete, that looks like a cool spot, actually never been there , may have to check it out! It's a lot closer than Shasta where we normally go and fuel costs suck!

Do you dry camp or RV?

Yes it is--I love to go to Shasta, probably my favorite lake in CA, but it is a 6+ hour tow for me. Also, I've been at Shasta when it was 110* outside. Shaver, on the other hand is much smaller, but at 5500' elevation, so it is always 20* cooler than the valley. I imagine that you could make the tow in about 3 hrs, maybe a little more. There is an excellent camp ground (Edison) with good facilities for either tent camping or RVs. We have a cabin there and it looks like I'm going to be "stuck" up there most of the summer, so if you want to come over and check us out, give me a call.

Mark shhhhhhhhhhhh,  don't be telling these guys about the nice places around here  :screwy: .  He was just kidding there's no such place a Shaver lake, the only lakes around here are Pine Flat and Millerton , both have ugly muddy shore lines covered with stickers and rattle snakes  :o :o .

If y'all like Shaver so much, you may like Redinger Lake as well, you guys ever been?
Title: Re: 4 of july
Post by: Sanger Pete on June 20, 2008, 09:04:21 AM
Haven't been to Redinger in years--we used to go there back in the 70s on holiday weekends to escape the crowds, but, oh, that tow of the last 8 or so miles on that narrow dirt road was tough. It sure kept out alot of recreational type boaters, but we saw alot of hot boats looking for a quiet place to run with no real restrictions or LE scrutiny. However, the lake was so narrow that in some places we had to stop skiing to turn around and go the other way, and just a few hot boats made it kind of dangerous. Now, I understand there is a 35 MPH limit on the lake, and only the one ramp.

How jacked life is...  You guys in Cali are wishin you had water in your lakes, and alot of the folks here in the midwest are loosing everything to flood levels 10-20' over flood stage.  I've been a mean and nasty bastard the majority of my 48 years, do ya think the good lord may be trying to tell us ALL something?
