454 BBC re-build and maybe some more power

Current ride - 1993 20.5 open bow Hardin 454 BBC (stock with a covered engine compartment). I live in orange county and need some advice as the limited knowledge I have I think it would be best to let a pro do the re-build. The boat has run great over the 8 yrs I have had it but now I think is the time for a preventative maintenance. To my knowledge everything is original. I am seeing area on the logs where it looks like it might be leaking. Where is a good place to take it in so cal and how much should I expect to pay. on top of that I would really like to gain some MPH in the process.

I was thinking of adding a drop snoot and ride plate but I would imagine that would really just be for the hole shot. What could I do with out braking the bank and keep the motor reliable?

Nice float bud I have a 96 carrera 202xr bow rider I just recently had the pump rebuild and had an inducer put on it I couldn't be happier with the result holeshot and reaction as far as motor goes I would get ahold of bostick for a good reliable motor with a little extra hp as far as price I'm not to positive but it will be really reliable I had my pump done by b1

Are you looking to fix the water leak or rebuild the motor and pump? You can probably fix the leak with maybe just some gaskets. A whole engine rebuild is going to run $3500.00 or more, plus pump work. Speed costs, how fast do you want to go? My boat is a stone stock motor and pump, so others with more horsepower can jump on, but I think it depends on your plans and budget.

I was thinking 2-3k total. I would like to get in the high 60's. Not trying to break records but would be nice to have some more speed. I guess it would be best to do gaskets and a little extra maintenance. Motor runs great just want to keep it that way. Where should I start with power?

I'm guessing you're running somewhere in the low to mid 50's now. To get roughly 10 mph more might take more than your current budget allows. Maybe fix the water leak and let it ride for the next year or so, come out to some meets and introduce yourself. I'm still trying to break into the crowd, but it's worth the effort. The water leak is something that can be fixed in the driveway. I'm in L.A. County, so if you need a hand, just let me know. Probably only 30 minutes away.

I have the same hull as you and am in the same situation. My motor is all stock and and likely tired, it tops out at 4200 rpm and about 43 mph. Let me know if you go with a droop I would love to know how it affects the ride of this hull. One of my main problems is how low the boat sits in the water, I know I am losing mph there. The water breaks about even with the driver seat if not a little in front of it.

I found your interior pics on a different forum a while ago and have them saved for the future when I redo mine, it looks killer man.
