Anchoring on the river

So I will be renting a house on the river this summer. the house has a dock but with the lower freeboard it would beat the hell out of my boat. what is the best way to anchor by the beach for an hour or so. I don't mind beaching it but when a roll bar boat comes by......

Have your nose pointing out. Nose anchored with a box anchor....Transom tied off with a sand spike. www.slideanchor.com has both of them.

Thanks! What size box anchor should I go with? Also how far off the beach should I keep the boat and should I just place and leave it for the day? it seems like it will be hard to do with the current moving.

Ideally you could leave it for the day. It depends on how much the water level will fluctuate. What part of the river are you going to?

Also a size small will be more than enough for your boat size.

Lastly....(maybe I should answer all the questions in one post) keep it far enough out so that the pump isn't hitting the bottom when it's being rocked by waves. But also not so far out that you gotta swim to it lol

The water there is low in the morning and starts getting to a decent depth by 11-12. Peaking around 3. Depending on how early you anchor it will depend on how much you might need to move it. Also I highly recommend not leaving it in the water overnight.

ALMOST made this mistake lol. Rented a house about 10 houses up from Lazy Harrys, thought about leaving the boat in the water (my first time at the river), last minute decided to pull it out. The dock was sitting in the mud when I got up and the water was about fifteen feet out from there.

Never leave it on the river over night my buddy did that and woke up and his boat was on the Mudd it filled the jet up with Mudd solid
