Title: And Yes, ANOTHER new guy!
Post by: Ken on April 18, 2014, 06:29:11 PM
Been lurking here and there for a while, hooked up on the Instagram site and saw SCJB, and figured nows about time to introduce myself.
I have a '77 Marlin, built by Don Whatmore, (a partner with Skagen, many years ago before he stated Marlin) out of Renton, Wa.
I am new to the ownership of a jet, but have loved them as far back as I can remember in the 70's & 80's as a kid.
Raised in SoCal (SanDiego) but now live in Spokane, Wa.
My jet is a full restoration/rebuild project, 460, tunnel ram (was a single carb Offy, Port-O-Sonic top, but I wanted dual 4's. I couldn't find a dual 4 one, so I cut off the single top half, took a dual top SBC top half, and cut, stretched, and welded it up to make it a dual 4.) EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING that is aluminum on it was at one time polished. I'm going to redo that also. The Berkely, motor mounts, tunnel ram, VC's, bell housing adapter, both tanks, etc., etc. Going to repaint in flake, and I'm thinking gold, with white tuck n roll.
I am kinda off/on sporadic with my build, as I'm building a '32 2door sedan and a '25 T roadster at the same time.
Checking out this site, and ESPECIALLY seeing the videos from here, has really got my juices flowing again. Seems like lots of comradery and friendship here versus some of the other sites I lurk at to learn about drag/jet boats.
Well that's about it, I'm not much of a computer guy, so this is a lot for my single finger typing for now. Looking forward to being a part here, and we visit SoCal yearly so will hopefully meet up at some events as I get to know you all.
Thanks, Ken

First and second pic are of the day I got her. Last pic is the only one I have at the moment of the dual top tunnel ram I made. The one all the way to the left.

Hmmmm, small world! What's the name of the shop? I work on my own stuff, EXCEPT for the wife's new shirt box, if I need work on that I shock him out.

Yeah, I'm a member on the Skagen board, but don't frequent it to much. Skagen was a co owner/builder with Don Whatmore in the 60's (Whatmore is the builder of my Marlin) but the partnership dissolved before he started Marlin. I have never met any of them, but I have talked to most of them and they are a great bunch!!

While I'm all for FAST engines and such, this site seems to cater to a more vintage style of drag/jet boat that I remember from my youth (I'm 47) the Skagen site while a GREAT friendly site, seemed like a more modern style of "race" boat site?? I may be totally wrong, but that's what I perceived??

I guess a comparison would be:

street rods, (not me) vs. tradition HotRods (me!!) if that makes sense???

Damn I thought I proof read it before I sent it!!!
Auto correct should have been: "wife's new SHIT BOX" , and "I'll CHECK HIM OUT" !!!!!
