Title: Any alarm guys out there?
Post by: BIG JOHNSON on May 11, 2012, 09:15:08 AM
I have a 2011 Silverado LT and I want remote start/unlock.

If I re-activate my on star, I know they have an app for android that will let me do it..

As far as I know the only way onstar can remote start your vehicle is IF its factory equipped with a remote start module.  Not all of them are, if it has it you would have a factory remote that would start it.   I do know you can add on the factory module, but I dont know the specifics of it.

If you don't want the on-star but want the remote start you can add it with a viper system and still have the app for your phone Iphone or Android. We sell the all the time at my work. Bestbuy.

So hell with OnStar. Just paid $250 to activate, promised by a rep that remote start will work with the phone app... No worky! Now on hold again for the third time trying to get my money back do I can go have the viper deal installed.

$550 sound ridiculous for the alarm package w remote start?

I want the leather cold when I get to the launch ramp, and I hate getting hustled..

The Onstar rep was an IDIOT !!   Like I told you, Onstar can only do it IF the vehicle has the factory remote start option, and not all vehicles do.  If it had it you would have factory remote that started your vehicle.   If you dont care about the security features of an actual alarm.  You might check with the parts department at your local Chevy dealership first.  I have heard of people adding the factory system.   It comes with the brain and remote I believe and just plugs in (from what I was told).

Where are you located? I have no prob seein' what my employee discount is on the viper system. And I'm close with all of the installers.

I talked to three different reps getting my assurance that it would work before I gave them the card number.

After I paid and tested and no workey, called same gal and explained what the message said. She ran my vin and clearly told me that same story.. just funny how the same person was guaranteeing all would work shortly before payment.
I may downgrade to the safe & sound package for 149/yr just in case shit happens. Most trips to the river, I'm falling asleep there and back. The woman may drive it sometimes and if she gets in a panic situation, I'd want the blue button to work.

But really, most things offered by onstar are available through a smartphone.. providing internet access.
